    I have plastic nests in the boxes, read that they are easier to keep clean... I just put some hay on top of that. I hope that will entice them to enter the boxes to lay.... Will keep you posted.

    Why Would my one hen that is laying start laying on the floor of the coop instead of in one of the ten nice nesting boxes on the wall? I even have golf balls in them!! Any suggestions? Is this hen just confused?

    I have done one hatch and am in the middle of my second. With both I have had a chicks hatch on day 19 and chicks hatch on day 20. THe rest on day 21. Very fun to watch!

    OK, a few hours after hatch. Seems that (s)he has a small yolk sack still attached. Eyes have shrunk a bit. However, it just lies on its side and breaths heavy.... Here are some pics.

    Chick is out finally. Looks really underdeveloped. Eyes are like too big and buggy and the wings are super small..... I placed it in the brooder under the heater.

    chick stopped bleeding from the pip hole for a while, but just started and stopped again. About a half of a teaspoon of red-brown liquid. (s)he is about 3/4 unzipped and progressing!
