we are having to get rid of our chickens... we can no longer afford to feed us and them.
two female leghorns
one banny rooster
the rest of the them we don't really know what they are - they laid well until it got so cold.
we have two that have gone rouge right now - (flew out of the chicken...
we have oyster shells too - i need to remember to put that in with their food again. i'm soooo wanting to bake with duck eggs and they are making me wait!
we STILL don't have duck eggs
i've been giving them laying mash in addition to their regular food just in case but still no eggs.
we've had them 25 weeks and i know they were several weeks old when we got them..
i'm feeding up for my husband (he had surgery last week) until his weight restrictions are lifted - yesterday i found a snake in our feed barn. i don't know what kind it was, it moved and i went out of the barn. we keep all the feed in bins (think rubbermaid bins) so that aniamls can't get in...
thanks for the replies ya'll - we really appreicate it. we found someone! she's going to start coming by a week ahead to get used to our routine in feeding and our dogs (who are on an auto feeder but bark like mad). i'm so glad we don't have to worry about it anymore- one less thing for me...
i'm wasn't sure where to put this - so i'm trying here. please move if needed..
my husband is having back surgery in august and i'll be staying with him in the hospital until he's discharged. we don't have anyone near by who can feed up for us while we're out of town. we have 1 pheasent...
i use that trap too and get wasps, bees, flys and spiders in it. i have several on my deck and have been using them for about two months. got my dad to 'donate' the bottles and we've made a bunch of the traps.
we treated our ducks to goldfish last night and it was the funniest thing i've seen in a while. we put them in the pool after we changed the water. one of the pekins sounded like a typewriter trying to get him one.
has anyone else done this?
the pekins are the same age as the others - we got them all the week before easter. one does have white on the neck, and another looks like its starting to....i couldn't get good pics of them, they run from the camera lol
i found my own answer -
they are mallards - and all female. all the photos i'd seen had the female as differant shades of brown - not with a blue streak ..
this is what i have - a good photo - way better than what i got.
this is what i was expecting them to look like
in the attached pic - what breed is the brown/blue duck? the blue feathers are between the two white bands on the wing, i couldn't get it to show up in the picture. they were sold as mallards but from what i've seen (in the pen and on the net) they aren't.
when can we expect duck eggs? we got our ducklings the week before easter and they appear to be full size. the mallards (were supposed to be mallards but i don't think they are) are all the same sex (males i think) but the two whites i think are one each.
how big is your kiddie pool? we have one of the plastic wading pools and empty and clean it everyday. we're getting ready to add a garden tub that will have a drain in it
