I opened the crop of the last one and it was full of straw. We are removing the straw and feeding them more (they are free range.) The other chickens seem fine, but I'm afraid they might be partially impacted too from eating straw. I'm guessing straw stays in the crop forever? What should we...
I thought we were feeding our hens enough, but we've had two die now from an impacted crop (straw, grass.) How much feed should we be giving them? Thanks so much.
Never mind. I checked her and she was dead. I cut the crop open and it was full of straw. We feel so stupid, it never occured to us that they would eat it. Dh is cleaning out the stall now.
We have a chicken with an impacted crop. I'm planning on doing the surgery mentioned here later today as the hen seems to be on her last legs. Can anyone tell me how long the incision needs to be? And is there someplace I can get an antibiotic without going to the vet?
