Determining how much to feed free range

I thought we were feeding our hens enough, but we've had two die now from an impacted crop (straw, grass.) How much feed should we be giving them? Thanks so much.

Hi! I free range mine all day, every day. I still keep layer feed available in the coop at all times. They'll eat a little in the mornings before I let them out. The hens grab a couple of bites when they go in the coop to lay. They eat a little again in the evenings before going to roost.
