    New ducklings

I recently adopted eight ducklings with the goal of them enjoying our pond. They are currently living in an enclosure, we let them out during the day and they swim in a kiddy pool. They don’t venture far from their enclosure. When and how can I introduce them to the pond and will they come back...

    Hen with a broken leg

I’m so sorry about your hen and I completely empathize. I had a rooster and a hen recover from severe limps. Unfortunately I now have a hen who started by limping and is now not walking anymore. She is in an enclosure by herself next to the coop. She eats and drinks but stopped laying. I don’t...

    What do I do!

Thank you for this thread. I have 15 three week old chicks of varying breeds and the four light colored ones had their tail feathers pulled out. I separated them to heal, put them back with the rest of the flock and quickly identified two bullies. They are now quarantined and I wonder how long...

    Best Breeds For Free Ranging?

Not sure if they do learn. After more than a year of happy free ranging I started loosing two chickens per week. I finally had to put them on lockdown and let them out whenever we are right there. Hubby is working on a huge, safe outdoor enclosure to prevent further losses.

What do you suggest we do about the hawks?

    hawk attack lockdown

Reading this I feel stupid. We have let our chickens roam on 10 acres for over a year and they are so happy. Recently they started disappearing due to Hawk attack and it took me too long to finally lock them up because I didn’t want to deprive them from their lovely life. They are still...

    Mysterious deaths

Thank you again for all your help. I live in middle Georgia and I can’t even find a veterinarian who works with chickens. I will monitor the remaining four closely and start deworming as soon as I get the medication delivered.

    Mysterious deaths

My fourth hen died last night. The remaining four are still on Corid treatment. My younger flock is very interested in mingling with the older girls, but at this point I am worried about spreading whatever is going on. I went toTSC today and they had Safeguard pellets that didn’t seem right for...

    Mysterious deaths

Latest update is not good. I found her lying on the floor, very weak. I took her to a separate coop and administered Corid and B 12 which she accepted. If she survives it will be by god’s grace. I talked to a local vet and they suggested deworming. I have two other flocks who are healthy and...

    Mysterious deaths

All five chickens have been on Corrid for three days. She is still less active than the rest, but yesterday her comb had more color. Hoping for the best.

    Mysterious deaths

Again, I so much appreciate your help. The B 12 definitely perked her up, but I have started the whole flock on Corid and a high protein diet 🙏🙏🙏🙏

    Mysterious deaths

Thank you so much for concise advice. I will head to Tractor supply today and start them on the medication immediately. I have been adding B 12 since yesterday and she is drinking it. I will keep you updated 🙏🙏🙏

    Mysterious deaths

Thank you for your help. While I am not new to chickens I never had to do either. I have no evidence of unusual poop, but I am willing to administer medicine as long as it won’t be harmful. The one hen in question has weak legs, but is eating and drinking. Praying for her.

    Mysterious deaths

Thank you for your kind words. I can deal with loosing a chicken, it’s natural, but I am getting very upset having to bury one every month 🥲

    Mysterious deaths

Late June I purchased eight six week old pullets from a hatchery. Apparently they had been kept in a small dark place and moving them into a big new coop with outdoor run was extremely traumatic. As soon as I approached they would huddle in a corner. Although they remained extremely skittish...

Introducing new chickens to an existing flock

Thank you for sharing. I will try again. The pullets are very timid and are barely able to find their way back into the run. Maybe I will let them out while the adults stay in their run for a while.

Introducing new chickens to an existing flock

Thank you so much for your post. I need similar advice. I have five adult hens free ranging on 5 acres. I have six four months old pullets in a separate coop with a nice fenced in run. They have been seeing each other for a little while. Today I let the pullets out of the run and soon enough one...

Two day old chick dirty butt area

This is an interesting thread since I have two three weeks old chicks. However they came into this world thanks to my broody hen who takes care of them completely. I am helicoptering a little bit, but having a fierce and committed mom in charge seems my job is to be amused
