    Worming question

After the second worming you only have to wait 2 weeks to eat eggs. So it's really 24 days total from start to finish that you throw out the eggs. I was nervous too about using the medicine, but had no problems at all! I noticed no difference in behavior, no difference in eating or drinking...

    Worming question

It's a learning experience for me too! I wormed them again in 10 days (that's what I was told to do) and I had one heck of a time. The chickens had smartened up on me & would not eat the bread... so since I couldn't get the medicine back out of the bread, I had to buy a new tube. I found that...

Thank you for your reply. I will use different one next time as you suggested, thanks so much for the advice. Should I use Zimecterin Gold again for the 10 days later dose this time, or switch to another for that also?

    Worming question

Thank you for your reply. I ended up closing the coop at 5pm last night & waited till 9am to open it & give them the wormer. So they went 16 hrs without food & I'm waiting 3 hrs to feed them just in case. I've never done this before and oh my goodness it was crazy! I put the wormer inside...

    Worming question

Hi all, I'll be worming my chickens with Zimecterin Gold (Ivermectin 1.55%/Praziquantel 7.75%) paste. I know to give them just a bb size dose each, but I'm not sure if I should withhold food before doing so or after doing so.... or not to withhold food at all? Does anyone here know?

Problems with every aspect of getting old and new chickens together

If the older two are keeping others from food & water, I would separate them for a few days from the flock every time they do this. This will put them back at the bottom of the pecking order. As far as the roosters go, I would send two to the freezer or re-home them & keep the nicest one. Things...

Urban Backyard Chickens end of life solutions??

Another option would be to find a poultry processer in your area. You can do a search on craigslist. You just take the birds to them and they will process them for you for a fee. You could either use the meat for soup/stew or give the meat away.

At what age to re-home cockerel chick?

Thanks very much for your replies! I decided to put him up for sale now, being ready to go at 7 weeks old or now if the new owner has chicks this age. Oh how I wish I could keep him! But that's the way it goes.. He'll make someone a great rooster

At what age to re-home cockerel chick?

My broody hatched out three beautiful Buff Orpington chicks. Two are pullets, one cockerel now all 5 weeks old. I already have Daddy buff Orp plus two other roos, so the little guy will have to be re-homed. He has great genetics & his daddy is the best rooster I've ever had so he should be easy...

New pics. still wondering if hen or roo

That looks like a rooster to me. That's a high comb, the change in the color and texture of the cape feathers, and those two extra long sickle feathers on the tail. I really think you'll hear a crow soon. Big healthy looking bird!

Silkie Chicks from TSC Aggressive? Is anyone else noticing this?

Hi Mary, thank you for the welcome! These pictures are from the first day I got them. I will be taking more pictures today & I will add them. I am not good at chick pictures lol! They are always blurry. They do have the black skin, feet & beak. Only two of the six don't have the foot feathering...

putting 3 week old chicks outside?

I haven't had chicks that young this time of year before but, I would do a test run with the heat lamp in the horse stall & see if you can keep the temp at around 85 degrees before putting them out there. You may need two heat lamps with the size of the stall & the outside temps at 20/30...

Silkie Chicks from TSC Aggressive? Is anyone else noticing this?

Yes, I think you are exactly right on all. I was actually seeking out breeders in my area & then got sucked into the cuteness during a trip to TSC. I finally got it out of the employees that the hatchery is Townline Hatchery. They are just starting to feather out and already I'm seeing more hard...

Silkie Chicks from TSC Aggressive? Is anyone else noticing this?

I changed the brooder light bulb, added a small parrot swing (1 inch high), and a gumball sized soccer ball to the brooder to try to give them other things to do. I've been holding each one everyday. Things have calmed down a little. I am convinced that they must be mixed with another breed. Two...

First time buying chicks - TSC or Meyer?

Cackle Hatchery is one I like. They have small orders for backyards with free shipping. Also another new site I believe is also run by Cackle is called chickensforbackyards.com here you can order as few as three chicks. Both have Buff Orpingtons. I think Buff Orpingtons are a great choice for...
