My Roo is crowing at 15 weeks!

I went out yesterday to investigate a "noise" to find that it was my Aracauna rooster....discovering he had a new sound! It was the funniest thing to hear! I'm hoping with time and practice that it becomes a "real" crowing! You can tell he is new to this and experimenting. Funny! Now, I'm hoping...

Araucanas / Americanas from McMurray Hatchery

I would bet a sack of feed that they will be Americanas or EE's. Even hatcheries don't know the difference or care to know the difference. I've discovered that in my endeavor to raise true Aracaunas! True Aracauna's are not easy to come by! Good luck with them though....they'll be fun either way!

What's the best way to feed yogart?

I'm trying to give my hens yogart and can't find a good way. I just put it in a bowl and they peck at it but they hold their heads back like they are trying to drink it. I tried mixing a little feed with it to make a paste-like out of it. They ate it better this way. What's the best way to feed...

    New chick won't stop "peeping"

No, my light is not red, although I've read that is the best. Just can't get another one right now. But maybe soon...But it seems to be better. I think it's fine.....just is a little spoiled. When I pick him up, he's fine....sleeps in my hand. But when he's returned to the brooder, he starts all...

Just wondering--what got you started into raising chickens?

My Grandmother had chickens as I was growing up. I have very wonderful memories of feeding the chickens and gathering the eggs. I wanted those same memories for my grandchildren. So I finally talked my hubby into letting me have a few chicks. Hopefully, my few will multiply! But my grand girls...

    New chick won't stop "peeping"

I have some new chicks. They have plenty of clean fresh food and water. I have a heat light also. None of the other chicks are Peeping all the time but I have one that does nothing but peep...nonstop. My Grand daughters have played with/held them a lot. I'm wondering if this chick is...

HEAT, How do you save your chickens?

I read somewhere that some one used to top of an underbed plastic storage box......filled the top with water and let the chickens walk in cold water. (Use the top rather than the storage box itself, so they won't drown!)

How young to begin adding DE and ACV?

I use DE in my older (10 week old) chicks feed and put ACV in their water. I have one week old chicks. Is it safe to begin adding the DE to their feed and ACV to their water this young? Thanks!

I know I've read this on here but can't find it again. My 4 day old chicks have pasty butt....their poo is all dried around their butt. I soaked them in warm water until it became wet enough to just fall off. Now they are all clean, eating and drinking. I will watch to see if this happnes again...

Mine LOVE the raw oatmeal. They will eat it out of our hands! I only give it about once a week....but they would eat that and nothing else if I allowed!

    Pic of new chicks

Yes, I usually put my water up on a brick. And also, it is very important to keep those waterers level or they will just run all the water out. I'll bet that's what happened before. Be sure it's level! Cute babies!

St. Gabriel Organics DE......is it safe...?

No, mine looks like the one they show on their website. It does sound like alot of silicone. However, it does say that it is made from Food Grade DE. Mine does NOT have the head with teeth...

St. Gabriel Organics DE......is it safe...?

I bought this DE at the farm supply to feed my chickens and put down in their coop....and have done so. But now, I'm wondering if it is the safe kind. It says: Silicon Dioxide 85%, other element oxides 10%. I even put it all over my dogs, and in their kennel. Am I killing my pets? Please help...

9 week old hens losing feathers....why?

I have 6 nine week old hens (NO roosters) and everyday there are more and more feathers on the ground in the coop. I'm new at this and don't know why this is happening. I put DE on the ground and in a dust/bath hole for them to "bathe" in. It's also in their food. So why are they losing so many...

    Who is with me?

Hello, I, too, recieved eggs in the mail today. I've NEVER incubated eggs before! Actually, my friend has the incubator and will be doing it for me. But he's never incubated eggs received in the mail. I ordered 12, but 2 were broken. So I have 10 pretty blue Araucana eggs. My question is, I've...
