Really sorry for the delay - things got away from me and I forgot to check responses after the first few minutes. Is your offer still open about the chicks?

    Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Hi all - question for the group. In February, I got 3 bantam chicks to add to my existing flock of 3 hens (sexlink, cochin, and welsummer). When the chicks got older and went outside with the older hens, they didn't integrate well. No violence or anything, but they hung out as two separate...

Does anyone have (or know of) any silkies hatching in the next week or so? I am a few miles NW of Philadelphia but would be willing to travel a bit if needed. Thanks, Ed

Didn't think to hard boil them - good idea, thanks! Would it be safe to give the chopped/ground up egg-shell mix to my dog? With only 3 chickens, 18 eggs would be a lot, and I'd rather get rid of them quickly than have them sitting around my house.

    Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Hi all - I noticed one of my hens had gone broody in a strange spot underneath the coop. I got her out after only a day or two, but somehow she managed to accumulate 18 eggs down there. I figured she had just stopped laying for the winter, but turns out she was hoarding all of her eggs...

Can someone recommend a local spot (I am in Conshohocken - a few miles NW of Philadelphia) to buy fodder seeds in bulk? I have been growing fodder for a few months now, but I am still learning the ins-and-outs, and not set on a specific type of seed or mixture other than it being organic. I...

    Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Hi everyone! I finished building an enclosed run this weekend (picture below) and moved my three (approx. 7 weeks old) chicks outside to their new home as of last night. After some initial protesting, they seemed to settle in just fine. They stayed inside during the rain this morning, but are...

    Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Hi everyone. Excited to share that we got our first chicks over the weekend. We got a cochin and a welsummer from Pickering Valley and a black sex-link from dheltzel, and all appear to be doing great. The welsummer is about a week old now and the other two are a couple of days younger. I...

    Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Thanks all. It's amazing how many chicken owners there are around here, and I had no idea for all this time! Out of curiosity, would anyone recommend - keeping in mind that I have zero experience with anything chicken related - trying to incubate some eggs instead of buying chicks? If so, is...

    Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Hi all. I am an excited soon-to-be chicken owner located in Conshohocken (Montgomery County), PA. I just found this thread a few minutes ago, but can already tell it's going to be very helpful (though work might disagree regarding the "helpful" part if I spend any more time reading about...

    Modifications to Existing Coop

Hi all - I just brought home a new chicken coop/trailer. It's about 3x4', so enough size for 2-3 hens. It's a lightly used coop that I found on Craigslist. The manufacturer can be found here: http://www.tuckerscoops.com/catalog/13 We will also have an outdoor run, but that needs to be...

    First Coop

Hi - I am new to this site and admittedly haven't had time to search through all of the forums yet, but I have already learned a lot and I am now even more excited to get started with chickens soon. I just got approval from the Mrs. and now need to find / build a suitable coop (the "approval"...
