For the past week since I discovered my hen has a significant prolapsed vent I have scoured the Internet for information and experiences, treatments and outcomes. Lots of information, some of it conflicting. Sadly, I have not read one successful story though where the hen was not culled or died...
My hen Bertha started walking like this yesterday morning. Friday she was fine. My daughter said she noticed she was a little off Friday evening. I thought maybe egg bound. Bathed, checked her. Nothing. I checked her feet saw that she had a mild case of bumble foot and treated, bandaged both her...
Hi friends. I am new to chickens. My 3 month old girls live in a coop with sand. As I have cleaned and scooped I have added sand to the top. It's worked out great. I find sand very easy to use and clean, no smell either. Because the girls trample over their droppings I cannot get all of it up...
Oh, thank you for the info about Yuma Feed. I used to get my dog food there. They are very nice people. I did find that Paws and Tails on 32nd Street behind Sprague's sells Scratch and Peck Organic feed. I see that it has mixed reviews but thought I may try it. I checked Azure website and it...
No, bobcats but a coyote or two plus cats. My hubby did attach hardware cloth to the bottom of the coop itself though it does not extend beyond the frame. And I have a couple of dogs. I'm hoping that's enough protection.
Hello Yuma peeps, where do you buy your organic starter feed? What brand? It's so difficult to purchase organic people food here in Yuma much less chick feed:(
The girls are finally in their new home. In all, they seem happy. Bought this coop from San Tan Coops, DH made a few modifications and additions. We still want :)to do a couple more modifications. :yiipchick
I've seen that there are many on BYC that have used and highly recommend the use of Blackjack #57. Has anyone in AZ. used this product to cover their coop and henhouse floors? What did you think? Also I'd like to know what folks in AZ are using for flooring - sand, deep litter method, etc. Thanks!
I currently live in Yuma but hope to move to Chandler area at some point. Do any of you know what the rules are for having BYC in that city? Are some cities more receptive than others in and around Phoenix?
Your chicken yard sounds eclectic and fun! I have seen a lot of very creative uses for houses & coops on BYC. I am not so imaginative so it helps to have access to this wonderful site. After going back and forth about whether to buy premade or ask my hubby to build, I finally decided to order...
Well....I got my little chickies over the weekend! 2 barred rocks and, I think, a Buff Orpington, and a white leghorn. I'm still trying to find the right plan for the coop. Probably a 3 sided coop since I live in the desert to probably a removable 4th side. Anyway, I've arrived:)
It's reassuring to know I'm not alone! Anyway, I picked up 2 barred rocks, 1 buff Orpington , and 1 white leghorn ( I think). The clerk wasn't 100% sure about the yellow chicks. It's ok anyway it turns out. They range in age from about 1.5 to 3 weeks, from what I've read. I can see where this...
