What could this be -- chickens dead and missing.

Grizz, I am in Oregon. Rural/semi-rural. We are on 5 acres, but there are four of us with houses relatively close together (and each of us has the bulk of our land on the opposite sides of the house from the side that is near the neighbors). There is always quite a bit of activity with cars...

What could this be -- chickens dead and missing.

Thanks for the thoughts. . . Hmmm . . .I had considered a snake (though I've rarely seen any in this area, and those I have seen were tiny). What I don't get is why the chickens were huddled on the floor. It seems like a snake sighting would cause them to get up on the roost, away from the...

What could this be -- chickens dead and missing.

Yesterday morning my neighbor opened her coop and found a young chick/hen dead. Legs stretched out behind it, in a nesting box. Around dinner time last night she went back to the coop to check on everyone and found a full-grown hen, that was fine earlier, now also dead. She was in the middle...

Looking for a good affordable vet in portland oregon

When we thought our hen was eggbound we looked, and looked and looked for a vet that would see her. We ended up in Newberg (though that is probably too far for you). I'd suggest checking with the vets on the fringes of the farming community . . .I think they are more likely to treat chickens...

    Vanished Peep mystery

My guess would be coyote. I say this only because I spent hours today reviewing security camera footage after we had a hen come up missing and found a bunch of feathers in the yard (ours was also during the middle of the day). Turns out that the feathers are from one of the hens I still have...

    Advice needed--chicken survived coyote attack

I lost a hen three days ago and was reviewing security camera footage today because I suspected it was a neighbor's dog. Turns out it was a coyote . . .but it appeared to attack one chicken that got away . . .and then went back for another. I immediately went to check my flock which seems to...

    Pullet or Roo?

Well, well, well, guess who crowed this morning? He must have known I "outed" him by posting his picture yesterday. Thank you for the correct ID. I'll look into what breed he is . . .he does look so very different from the other two barred rocks that I have and I too had noticed the leg...

    Pullet or Roo?

Feeling rather silly, I realized that with a little cropping I had some better options for pictures. So, see if these help with ID. Thanks in advance for the help.

    Pullet or Roo?

This is a 14 week old Barred Rock (or so we were told by the feed store). This is my neighbor's. I have one the same age and they look very, very different. This one has tail feathers much longer than the others. I'd appreciate opinions on this one. He/She is a fast one, so this is the best...

    Egg Bound???? Not Sure-Help!

I'm so sorry to hear about your sick hen! We had the exact same problem with our Rhode Island red starting about 5 weeks ago. All the same symptoms and that could be her in your picture. She would seem to get better after a warm bath, and then slowly return to her tail-down state. Last week...
