Can a bantam live inside during the winter?

Okay thank you for your response. I’m trying to butter up my husband to allow me to get another one.

Can a bantam live inside during the winter?

Okay this is my absolute last resort decision in order to be able to keep all my chickens. I’ve posted already about my barred rocks attacking my little bantam hen and she needs to be separated from them. I have considered getting rid of my barred rocks but I just can’t do it. I love my rooster...

Can I keep a bantam chicken with two ducks?

I had to build a new coop for my male mallard because he was getting attacked really bad by his flock, he’s now happy with a new female. However now I’m having the same problem with my chickens. My bantam is getting attacked by my barred rocks and I’m wondering if my bantam can live with my two...

    Bantam being attacked help!

I put out an ad to sell them. I would really like if I could keep everyone because I have grown attached, but I know that may not be possible. I do have one idea but I’m not sure if it would be disastrous. I think I may make another thread on this. Has anyone kept ducks with chickens? So I had...

    Bantam being attacked help!

Little background, I have a 3 year old bantam hen that I love dearly. She had a friend that died last year so I got 3 barred rock chicks to keep her company (thought I got 3 hens but it ended up being 2 hens and one rooster). Everything has been great up until these last few weeks. My bantam is...

Ya it gets crazy cold here. In the winter can get to -35 degrees celsius. Don’t know what that is in Fahrenheit. I turned the lamps off today cause it’s not that cold. But we got them all set up because the temperature is supposed to drop a lot tonight. Okay so I’ve uploaded the pics! As you...

    Lonely Duck

How many males and females do you have? I used to have 2 males and 2 females and the female at the bottom of the pack was raped and isolated and just wasn’t thriving. So I got two more females and all the issues went away because I had the proper drake to hen ratio which I did not have before.

Oh and also want to mention of course when the coop was getting built we got a dump of snow so it had to be put off getting built for a week so poor Forrest had to tough it out in his old coop.

Hi so sorry it’s been a busy week. I was just thinking today I need to get on here and give an update! So the new coop is great. Just did all the finishing touches today. Turned out way better than expected. Forrest is in there for the first time with his two girls Linda and Harriet and they...

I will! Part of it is done and Forrest was able to sit in the grass and not be stuck inside today. It’s nice because he wants to sit with the other ducks and this way he can be a part of the pack without getting attacked. It’ll be finished tomorrow. I’ll post pics when it’s done!

Here’s an update. Decided to go ahead and separate the the mallards from the muscovies. My mallard drake named Forrest is still acting normal and I’ll let him out to roam and he’s as happy as can be but as soon as I put him back in the enclosure he is chased off inside still. My husband is...

    Drake Isolating Himself

I checked the bottom of his foot and I didn’t see anything, but he was really flailing his feet so I’ll check again. I’m personally hoping it’s just a minor injury and that’s why they’ve isolated him cuz then at least I can get it dealt with and then he can go back to the flock! So we will...

    Drake Isolating Himself

Ok so a little update. I sat and watched my drake today and he has a very tiny limp and it looks like the top of his right leg is a little swollen compared to his other leg. I’m going to take him to the vet on Monday. I’m unsure tho if this could be a reason the others have banished him or if...

That’s great they’ve never had an issue like this! But I do think that if I put all the mallards together it would definitely ease the issue. My female mallards are pretty chill. Here’s my plan of action: I’m going to get him checked out. If he appears to be healthy I’m going to wait one more...

    Drake Isolating Himself

I’m thinking about taking him to the vet just to be sure he’s not ill. I was just out with them and I put him with them to see what would happen and the girls peck at him, not in any specific part from what I saw. And he fights back and pecks back. My one Muscovy literally sat on his head. I am...
