I've been raising 4 little peeps since their arrival in early September. There is a Speckled Sussex, Orpington, Bantam Cochin and a Bantam D'uccle. Everyone gets on well and the Sussex is definitely vying for the top spot on the pecking order. I moved them outside full time about two weeks ago...
My Pet Chicken isn't actually a hatchery. Their birds ship from Meyer. I discovered this after receiving my order recently, since the box was labeled as such.
That being said, I had multiple chats/phone conversations with MPC and Meyer due to a dead chick, and subsequent replacement I ordered...
My girls shipped Monday afternoon, and were at the PO yesterday morning. I was grateful that they arrived so quickly.
The wait was nerve wracking, and if I had to do it again, I would've just drove to pick them up.
My small order was shipped yesterday from Meyer, and were claimed at the post office almost immediately this morning. There were no delays that I can tell from the tracking, the only way it could have been faster is if we would've drove and picked them up (which was considered).
I ordered 2...
My box arrived from the hatchery today. My excitement quickly turned to tears, 3 babies survived. One sweet chick passed away shortly after placing them in the brooder.
Best I could tell, the nesting material in the box shifted along with the lone heat pack included. The poor little thing got...
This is exactly how I feel. I don’t care at all about the possibility of a refund if they get held up. I know if they are all DOA, it will weigh incredibly heavy on my conscience. The safety of the chicks is more of a concern.
I too, have an order set to ship from MPC on Aug 31. I emailed/chatted earlier this week that I was concerned about USPS. I felt much better after speaking with them, and don’t expect any issues.
Incidentally, I did look for alternate shipping options, and found USPS is it for shipping any kind...
I was given Zithromax for her. The vet did share a story with me, of a parrot he treated with similar symptoms, responded well to meds, but ultimately succumbed to a tumor that had grown in its throat.
I hope my girl pulls through, but will post back progress whichever way it goes.
The antibiotic is Zithromax. Several days up front, then to every other day I believe for the duration.
I have three hens, all older, they are pets now more than anything. I’m a bit of a germaphobe, so if it can be scrubbed or cleaned, I do it regularly. Also, dogs that like to roll in chicken...
Yes, I understand that this bacteria is present, the vet explained it’s usually in their gut I believe. The bacteria can flourish, and it’s presence can be worsened in a hen by sharing water with wild birds etc. I have no reason to believe what the veterinarian saw in the swab sample was...
I posted previously, about my adult hen who was ill, and being home treated for canker and worms. Anyhow, she went to the vet Monday, and a mouth culture was taken. Apparently, campylobacter bacteria basically exploded on her tongue and mouth. On sight, it looked very much like canker, white...
Hi everyone.
I have a 6 year old RIR that has not responded to anything I’ve done in the last three days to help her illness. I started with horse wormer on Friday, along with ACV in water. This morning, I dosed her with metronidazole.
This started a couple of months ago, she had clear fluid...
My sweet brahma girl Brunhilda really does deserve the title of Miss Performer from Purina. If you have a minute, and do the facebook thing, click on the link below and vote for her by liking her picture in the comments. With a little help, we just may be able to catch the current leader...
Hello. This is my first official post, but I come here often looking for advice and information. I went through quite a few pages already searching for info on my problem first, but nothing that quite fit my particular situation.
I have a nearly year old Brahma hen that is definitely my baby...
