Thanks y'all! That was my train of thought too. I was just bit by the curiosity of it all. Currently I refer to it as a she. I hope she stays a she but it's cool either way. I just really want more hens for more eggs.

I have 4 hens. I'm certain because of the color this egg is from my RIR, I'm still expecting 1st eggs from my Amerucana and both my orpingtons. So, I have a few more first to celebrate. So Awesome. But I will TRY to be patient.

Thank you! I've been pretty anxious. I've had my girls since they were just a few days old and as soon as I knew they were old enough I was checking the boxes like a crazy woman. Then one day last week, I just decided that I could only look when I was putting feed out and BAM!

As soon as I stopped looking for eggs, I got my first one. This is one happy girl! Whoop! Whoop!

All great info. Thanks y'all. I will check on automatic doors and additional protective measures. I haven't actually seen any cats or evidence of them around, I just don't want to walk in and find a dead chicken. That will break my heart.

I have 7 chickens and the area that is sectioned off for them is approximately 10×30 feet. They have plenty of room. I just need to figure how to best secure it.

Oh and yes, I put them in a coop.
