    Silkie mix boys for sale

These boys are half Silkie and half Wyandotte OR half Silkie and half mutt. Good temperaments, usually sweet when handled but some are a little flighty to catch. I also have a pretty black one with a white head and neck, along with a few others not pictured. They are medium-small in size, around...

Showing and Show Prep Questions (Silkies and general) w/Pics

Thanks for the help, Sonoran. That definitely helps to clear up some things. I was kind of wondering a bit about the food thing. I know I've never seen my Silkies LOOK like they have a full crop, like my LF smooth feathered birds will, but I was just going by what I read that everyone else was...

Showing and Show Prep Questions (Silkies and general) w/Pics

Thanks chickendales! I'm definitely going to bathe and blow dry them. I'm thinking Thursday or Friday for their bath, probably Thursday so that they have plenty of time to re-oil their feathers and everything but hopefully not enough time to get too messy.

Showing and Show Prep Questions (Silkies and general) w/Pics

I’m planning on exhibiting my first birds(Silkies) at the Monroe, Georgia, show on October 20th. I am super excited, but this will only be the second show I’ve ever attended, and though I’ve read so much about showing, I still have a few questions. Show questions: #1 Are hens and pullets...

Swelling on Silkie chicks upperbeak & ear..Fowl pox?? A growth? What IS this?

Hi all, so sorry I haven't updated you guys, just been busy with stuff and taking care of these babies. First off, thank you SO much for the replies and great ideas. I truly appreciate it. Welasharon - Thanks for this info. It doesn't really look like pox to me, because I've had that before...

Swelling on Silkie chicks upperbeak & ear..Fowl pox?? A growth? What IS this?

Gallo- Thanks for posting that info. I had just read that first link when searching for canker on here. Very interesting, but neither of those seem to be like what my babies have. However, I did have a hen a year or two ago that had a swollen cheek kind of like that. After a week or so it...

Swelling on Silkie chicks upperbeak & ear..Fowl pox?? A growth? What IS this?

I've added electrolytes to their waterers today. I wish I could take them to a vet but I don't know of one around here that treats chickens. Everybody I've asked has said "no". Any particular kind of antibiotic you would recommend, Lacrystol? I think they sell some for parrots and such at...

    The American Paint Silkie

I'm sure I will Shayna, I can't wait to see them when they're adults, though I'm loving them as babies of course :). Hope nobody minds me posting this here, I also make a thread about it in the emergencies/diseases section, but I thought I'd ask your opinions. My four-week old Partridge chick...

Swelling on Silkie chicks upperbeak & ear..Fowl pox?? A growth? What IS this?

On Sunday (the 23rd) I noticed my almost four-week old Partridge Silkie baby "Nutmeg" was holding his mouth open, and it looked like he had something stuck in it, like a piece of wood mulch or mud. When I caught him (He lives outside with his mom, dad, "uncle", and "aunt") I tried to get it out...

    The American Paint Silkie

Thanks guys! The babies are going to be two weeks old this Saturday, and they're all doing great. I need to get more pictures of them. They're starting to get wings and little tails, and Bobbin is such a good mom. Love your paints, Shayna! :)

    The American Paint Silkie

I’ve just finished reading all 135 pages of this thread yesterday. The Paint color is fascinating and all the “odd” colors it throws are just beautiful. So many lovely and beautiful pictures of Paints too! I’m still pretty new to Silkies, I got my first just a little over two years ago. I was...

Is this some type of worm?

Hmm, okay. I only saw one more of these bugs today. They don't look like the fly maggots that I occasionally see outside though, maybe they're just a different type of fly? So then I go back to having no idea why he's so thin..Though it could still be worms. Does anyone know how to do a fecal...

Is this some type of worm?

A week or so ago I noticed my 8-9 month old Silkie cockerel had lost a LOT of weight. He lives in a coop with two other Silkie cockerels and three hens. He is a bit more skittish than the other birds and I thought originally that the other boys were just bullying him away from the food. I did...

Is this Vitamin E-Oil safe for my birds?

I was wondering if it could be a vitamin D deficiency since we've had to keep him and his buddies cooped up most of the time due to not having completed their run(They are in a new coop). I will start giving him Poly-vi-sol tonight. Supposing it is a vitamin D deficiency, how long do you think...

Is this Vitamin E-Oil safe for my birds?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew if this vitamin e-oil product would be safe for me to give to my birds? http://www.drugstore.com/natures-bounty-natural-vitamin-e-oil-30000-iu/qxp16981 The reason I'm asking is because I have a cockerel (8-9 months old) who lost a lot of weight, but is...

How do you KNOW it's Coccidiosis?

Okay. We have still not checked their feces under our microscope but will have to look into getting stuff to do that test. The Splash chick hasn't shown any more signs of being sick, just the pasty poo that one day. The White chick seems to have improved a little bit. She's not as droopy as...

How do you KNOW it's Coccidiosis?

Last week I lost my 23-25 week old Silkie pullet, Allison, after a three-week battle with what I originally thought was Coccidiosis. Her first symptoms were decreased appetite, uneven gait, and droopy wings. It took me 3 days to figure out that it was most likely Cocci, and then I bought some...

Silkie pullet with legs sticking out in front, can't walk.

My Partridge Silkie pullet, Allison, has been sick for about two weeks. She is about 23-24 weeks old and I bought her two months ago at the Newnan poultry show along with a Partridge cockerel and White cockerel. She started showing signs of sickness on the 15th, wings drooping, staggering...
