    My chickens are fighting

Thanks very much for the replies. They have been together over the weekend and seem to be getting along now. One hen still goes over to the mother hen and tries to pick a feather, but the fighting has stopped and they are seeming to sort themselves out. It was strange though, as they were...

    My chickens are fighting

Hi all, One of my hens went broody a little while ago, and she successfully hatched 3 chicks about 7 weeks ago. I have heard that after 6 weeks or so, it is ok to put the mother hen back in with my other adult hens (I have 4 adults hens in total) but she is being completely picked on by one of...

    treating wounds on chickens

Hi all, I have 6 hybrid chickens and they are in a run throughout the day and then free range in early evening whe I get home. We have had some fairly aggressive feather pecking and have had the main culprit in a seperate smaller run for a last few days (maybe a week). Before the seperation...

    Bark Chippings

Hi All, I want to get some bark chippings to put down as a floorbase in my chicken run, it would all be put down on top of the ground (it used to have grass on it, but the chickens have had it all torn up now). Is there any particular chippings I should get? Cheers, Ian.

    Pecked hens

Hi, We have 6 hens, all about 20 weeks old, and they are all hybrids: 2 Amber Stars, 2 Black Stars 1 White Star 1 Bluebell We have a problem where the Bluebell has been pecking all the rear feathers out of the other chickens, mainly the 2 Amber Stars, to an extent where one of them had blood...

    Cider Vinegar in Water

Hi all, I have heard that putting a bit of cider vinegar in the water for the chickens is a good thing, as it detoxs them. What I read was to do this once a month, but I can't find out the ratio's of vinegar to water. Has anyone used this method before? if so, how much do you use? Cheers, Ian.

    Bully chicken

All six of my girls are hybrids. I think they are as follows 2 x Black Star (or 'Bovans Nera') - Rhode Island Red / Plymouth Rock 2 x Amber Star - (do not know the cross breeds) 1 x Bluebell - Rhode Island Red / Cuckoo Maran 1 x White Star - Leghorn cross (not sure what crossed with)...

    Bully chicken

Well, unfortunately we had to take the Bovan Goldline back to the supplier and swap her for another Amber star. She just wouldn't let the two white chickens eat or drink or go into the house, she was terrorising them! But as soon as we removed her from the run, the whole attitude of the others...

    Bully chicken

I don't like bullies either, it is a lovely brown bird, but I want the whole flock to be happy, so will be taking her back and getting another white bird.
