Chick hatching, a few problems. Should I be worried? Please respond.

It seems fine. Red sack is still there though. I'm wondering if it's going to cause problems toileting?

Chick hatching, a few problems. Should I be worried? Please respond.

Ok, what do I do here? Chick hatched with small red sack hanging out of its vent. It's not bleeding and the chick seems normal. Ive cleaned the area a little with warm water and a cotton bud and applied a little antibacterial cream. Will it remedy itself? I've heard about tying these off...

Chick hatching, a few problems. Should I be worried? Please respond.

One of my chicks hatched in the last 15 mins. It took a little while to get out but not too long. It came out smaller than the others and quite wet. When I looked in the egg I saw quite a lot of jelly-like goo, which was attached to his vent by a slimy thread which detached as he moved away...

    Recommend best brand humidity gage?

Hi. My P&I incubator doesn't have a humidity gage. I want to buy an accurate one that I can trust, preferably with a slim sensor that will fit through a 1cm diameter air hole in the top of my incubator. Can anyone reccommend a good brand? Thanks

    ID my chickens! Easter eggers?

That's quite a convincing suggestion, I just had a look at a few images and that could definitely explain it!

What was wrong with my chick?

In my last hatch one chick was born with something wrong with it. It took longer to get up and walk than the others, then we noticed it had something that looked like a red sack hang from its underside, between the legs near its vent. It actually seemed fine apart from that, but obviously...

Hatching eggs bought online unsuccessful - reasonable explanation?

Could I get some advice? I am hatching a batch of 24 eggs, 12 Vorwerk, 6 Vorwerk from another source, and 6 White leghorn from another separate source. All were bought online and received promptly in the post. I candled the eggs today (day 9) and the 12 Vorwerks and 6 Leghorn are doing very...

Can too much humidity be bad??

Thanks, I have removed all the water now. I was planning to candle on those day and I will watch the air cell. Humidity is at 50% now and I plan to keep it there. I think the problem is the ambient humidity is 50% (we live in a caravan) and so a "dry hatch" as you say is going to be about 50%...

Can too much humidity be bad??

I am so thankful you posted this (I know it's an old thread). I have just done almost EXACTLY the same thing and was looking for similar advice. No humidity tester on my incubator, popped the water in, got a humidity tester and nearly freaked out! Felt pretty stupid. Only 2 days into my hatch...

    ID my chickens! Easter eggers?

We are in the UK. Yes, they were blue eggs. Here they are at chicks before we lost one. I also found this picture which claims to be an araucana pair - They look pretty close.

    ID my chickens! Easter eggers?

Thank you for your insight. I had a suspicion they might be a complete mixed bag. I don't know where the eggs were originally bought from though, and I can't say I have ever seen an advert for "mongrel hatching eggs" so it makes me wonder what they were sold as. Easter egger rooster with beard!

Hello! from the West Midlands, UK

Hi all, just joined this great online chicken community. We currently have 250 laying chickens on our care farm project, a mixture of Black Rock and Warrens. We have the odd donated chicken scratching about - a couple of broilers, two Silkies and some potential Easter Eggers. In addition to...

    ID my chickens! Easter eggers?

This odd looking chap and his sister were given to us as chicks following a school hatching project. I must admit I kind of like them :) We had no idea what they were, but I've done a bit of looking around and decided they must be in some part related to the araucana family due to the long necks...
