... Am I happy? Well yes, but that's not the point!
We have had chickens for just over 5 years now. I love my flocks (yes I have two, and a bachelor pad). Last year I decided after loosing two of my one year olds I didn't want to get any more chicks untill I could revamp and remodel my coops and...
Sorry bout the lack of response. I'm in sw iowa just off the Missouri river... lots of flooding. Waters are receding but still lots of water around. Anyway it's was kinda calm so I jumped on here quick. Keep, as he is called, is doing well, although the growing at 6 30 this morning was quite...
Sorry, working on getting prepared for evacuations due to flooding- with in a few hours of my last post, she was back out side interacting with the flock- no frostbite or anything- I check her all the time for any issues as she spent the first 6 months with me inside my house (we got her just...
I have a 10×10 pen with roosts, ramps, dust bath and a small tree for them to climb in, attracted to a 8x8 coop for 12 hens. I would send pics but it's so muddy I've had to throw extra wood and stuff on ground to get there and I still slip and fall in mud... not taking a chance with camera or phone
We brought her in and cleaned her up and then took her back out for the night. We started taking the antibiotic and water to her first thing in the morning before we opened up coops. She has food inside, but water is outside. We take out a cup of water now to her every morning, and they've all...
Over a week ago, my sapphire gem hen, Diamond, was attacked by a possum in the run attached to the coop. She was just bitten on the leg/foot and the possum was just dragging her around when I got out there. I took her in and cleaned up her wounds and dressed them while others "disposed" of the...
I would imagine it's good then. I'm guessing it's a powder and won't increase the moisture then if it reduces bacteria and odor. Sounds like something I might want to add to my coops
Here are the pics again the section that came off I bandaged it before I thought to get a picture, but you can generally see that it was the end segment.
Yes there was blood, so he did get a topical triple antibiotic and then it got bandaged. I dont have a clue as to why. He is inside my house, so it wasn't from an attack.
Sorry! He has been keeping me busy. His feet did begin to turn and shortly after I was keeping a close eye on swelling above the frostbitten area of his feet. Then it was a disaster trying to find a vet anywhere near me that would a) see a rooster or b) allow me to pick up antibiotics to attempt...
Okay, so I have treated him for mites, by spraying him, and cleaning out bedding, and spraying with permithrin. His feet and legs are still swollen, with open sores I assume from the mites. I worry he still has mites on his legs, but with the sores, what is the best way to treat his legs so I...
I feel like I shouldn't be excited, but I moved him inside to treat for frostbite, and after, I had to head to work. Came home to mites on the cage he is in. He is also walking again, after a good foot washing we found his toe nails. I just finished spraying...permithrin(I think that's what it...
Found roo stuck yesterday laying down behind log. He couldn't get up or hold head up. Let him rest for a while and he was back to normal. Now his legs are really swollen and skin is peeling. I don't know what this is to treat it. Is it frostbite or mites?
Thinking I could build my own coop and end up having a cute place with a little garden like I see in so many pics on here. I had no experience before hand and with chicken math I'm 3 coops in and it's barely improving...
We did everything we could. She was eating better today, and a bit more active, but she wasn't able to pull through. We just lost her. Thank you all for everything, and every bit of advice you offered.
