I don't add light to their coop as I feel that their natural cycle is best for them. I live in Texas so there is less chance of them needing the extra heat.
My girls are productive but not as productive as the summer months. I feed them a quality feed and they get black oil sunflower seed and...

They are still available and the price is per dozen.
I ship them wrapped in towel paper packed in chicken eggs cartons. I find this works really well.
The shipping is dependant on how many eggs you want and is what the post office charges. I don't charge extra for shipping.
I have extra bobwhite eggs for sale. I have already hatched out a batch and do not want to hatch any more this season. I got an 88% hatch rate using a Hovabator.
If you are interested I will collect eggs and ship them to you or if you are local to Dallas, Texas we can meet.
Tony, I don't have another new pen to put them in. I could put the new birds inside the existing pen in a cage though.
Also they are new bloodlines so no issue with interbreeding. I always figure a good mix produces a better bird.
So I have spent the last hour reading posts that I could find and what I am able to glean (not a lot of info on bobwhites) is that placing the young birds in a cage next to the mature birds for a few weeks is the recommendation.
Ok so once that is done should I just dump them in in one big...
I have a large aviary where I Raise bobwhite quail. I hatched out a new generation earlier this spring and want to add them into the flock.
Does anyone have experience on doing this that they could share? I want to try to make it as smooth as possible and keep losses low.
Norther bobwhite...

I keep males and females together without any issues. I currently use cages that are 2 x 2 x 2 that are meant for rabbits that I purchased. I only keep 5 or 6 birds to each cage 1 male and the rest females.
I will be switching them this spring to an aviary type pen. I have...
That was what I thought. I can see candling bobwhite eggs but can you candle coturnix eggs? I have never tried and would think it might be hard with all the spots.
I have 36 bobwhites and am getting an average of 10 eggs per day. I want to incubate some and leave some in the pen for natural incubation.
Are there resources that give incubation times and humidity levels for the incubator?
If you do it keep us informed. From what I have heard there is only one USDA approved slaughter house in Texas. I have searched and can't find even that one, but a reliable source tells me there is one.
I would love to be able to sell my meat birds.
I seem to be getting a lot of eggs from my quail, both coturnix and bobwhite, that have double yolks.
Is it ok to incubate these eggs? Will it cause problems?
If it is not ok is there some way to cull these eggs reliably? I get a lot of large eggs that don't have double yolks so just going by...
Thank you Gretchen.
I read somewhere the three year number as well but when I went looking for it could not find it again. Have you read anything about the egg production over that time span?
That picture is of the first chicks that I incubated.
When should I retire my laying flock?
I am raising Coturnix and Bobwhites, all my birds are less than or just at 6 months old. I have not seen any reduction in eggs produced or the size of the eggs but I know that day will come. I was wondering what the egg laying expectancy of a quail is? And...
I just cleaned it today with a heavy bleach mix. Then refilled with water and ACV. I will watch and see how long it will take to start seeing algae again.
I wash it out once a month, but I don't use bleach. I will try that next time to see if it helps. Still wondering if there is something else I can do to keep this from happening?
