yea, i don't keep food and water in my coop. they don't eat or drink at night anyhow. just be sure to be up and open the door for them at daybreak though.

thanks for all of the info, i was just wondering this same question this morning. i may have to add these to the list of things in the yard. now on to researching quail coops...or pens....or whatever y'all call them.
i have a 10" layer of sand in my run and use chopped bermuda hay in my coop. for cleaning the sand, i bought a cat litter scoop on an extending handle. just scoop, shake, and plop it in a bucket
i should add that my run is under roof and doesn't get wet. also, i should mention i use river sand...it doesn't "hardpan" like some of the other stuff
