    Can chicks be "runts"?

Thank you! It is acting normal otherwise, just looks kind of funny. So hopefully it'll start catching up!

    Can chicks be "runts"?

This is probably a stupid question, but can you have a "runt" chick? I bought 2 australorp chicks from TSC and one is just so scraggly looking. It was noticably smaller when I brought them home and it just has not been developing like the other one. They are 4 weeks old now and the one chick is...

    Salmon Faverolles pullet or roo?

That is very helpful, thank you! I definitely think they are most likely both pullets now. The feathers are definitely not that dark and combs are still small and yellow. :clap

    Salmon Faverolles pullet or roo?

I just picked these 2 salmon faverolles up yesterday. I think they're around 2-3 weeks old. I was told they're both pullets. What do you think? The one has some darker feathers than the other. So that's the one I'm really questioning.

    Still not laying after molt.

    Great info thank you!

    Still not laying after molt.

I have 4 buff Brahma that are 2 and 1/2 years old. They went through a pretty rough molt starting the middle of the summer and stopped laying. I figured no big deal, it's normal and they'll start laying once they're done molting. Well, it's been a few months now, feathers have grown back and...

Could our rooster have caused this injury? (Pics)

Awe! I wish he was like that! He's such a jerk. He pushes the girls to try to get to "treats" and takes things from them. I decided to try to push him to the ground this morning just to see how much of a fight he would put up. He immediately just laid there. No fight at all. Also no fight when I...

Could our rooster have caused this injury? (Pics)

Thank you! I don't think that was the problem though. It was definitely him. It was healed, just a scar basically. You had to part the feathers to see it. The above pics are from when it first happened.

Could our rooster have caused this injury? (Pics)

Yep! I put her in a crate in the coop this time so she is able to be with the flock a little. The rooster is currently separated from everyone in an unused dog pen until he's dinner. He's very unhappy about it. I told him if he wasn't a jerk this wouldn't have had to happen. LOL!

Could our rooster have caused this injury? (Pics)

Well, I came home to find her almost completely scalped. I know it's him now. She was almost fully healed and now we have to start all over. I'm not giving it the chance to sort itself out. In the freezer he goes!!!

Could our rooster have caused this injury? (Pics)

They've pretty much all been raised together. This is our first year having chickens. The Brahma (hens) are a little older than the Wyandottes, but only by maybe 6 weeks. We have 6 Brahma, all hens and 3 Wyandottes, 2 hens and 1 rooster. We did have 4 wyandottes but an owl got one of the hens...

Could our rooster have caused this injury? (Pics)

I'll look into that, thanks. I don't think we plan on hatching any eggs. Not as of right now anyway. We mainly kept him to protect the girls. A job he currently sucks at! He usually runs away from us and everything else. He's only attacked us a couple of times and it was a sneak attack when our...

Could our rooster have caused this injury? (Pics)

Thank you! He's gotten very full of himself here recently. He tried to attack my husband today. He may not last much longer if he keeps this up. Lol!

Could our rooster have caused this injury? (Pics)

Thank you for you replies! The rooster does not have spurs yet. He's still young. I will try an separate them and see if that helps.

Could our rooster have caused this injury? (Pics)

I'm sorry it's difficult to see. I didn't think to take pictures until after I had already treated her. Last week I noticed this hen had a large gash on the back of her head/neck. We thought it was from an owl, as another of our hens was killed by one a few weeks before. But now I'm wondering if...

    The Silver Laced Wyandotte Thread

Thank you for your input! I think she's pretty average sized for a Wyandotte. She's the largest out of the 3 Wyandottes that I have. She's also the only one laying so far. Though one doesn't look to far from her first egg. I'll see if I can get a pic of one of her eggs next to a Brahma egg for...

    The Silver Laced Wyandotte Thread

One of my Wyandottes started laying about 2 weeks ago. Her eggs are much smaller than I expected. I thought they were supposed to lay large eggs and hers are smaller than my Brahma which lay medium eggs. The shells are nice and thick and well formed so I don't think it's a nutrition issue. Does...

    Backyard Brahmas!!

Are you sure she's 7 months old? From what I can see in the pic her comb and wattles don't look very developed. Mine will be 24 weeks this week and have much larger and darker combs and wattles. A couple of them have been laying for 2 weeks now.
