My chickens won't lay eggs...help me solve the mystery, please!!

I REALLY hope someone out there can help me figure this out because it has driven us batty for many months. First, let me give you a little background on our flock. We started raising chickens in Spring of 2009 when we built a good sized coop and bought a flock of laying Buff Orpingtons. They...

    Are these Ameraucanas or EE's?

This rooster and the 2 hens were sold to me as an Ameraucana trio from a chicken farmer. Now after reading about how much confusion there is over the Ameraucana/EE chickens, I wonder if I actually have EE chickens?? The hens both lay a pale green egg although sometimes one of them is a bit...

If you cross an Ameraucana rooster w/ a Buff Orp hen, what color eggs?

Actually, after doing a lot of looking around on here, I'm starting to think our Ameraucanas are EE's. They were sold to us by a chicken farmer as Ameraucanas but they don't resemble the ones I have seen pix posted of on here. I guess it will just be a neat surprise! Thanks!

If you cross an Ameraucana rooster w/ a Buff Orp hen, what color eggs?

We have an Ameraucana rooster and some Ameraucana, Buff Orpington, and Barred Rock laying hens. We are hatching eggs from all 3 breeds. Will the resulting chickens from the cross breeding end up laying green/blue eggs? I would love to hear about some of your cross breeding experiences!

Is it okay to open incubator on day 22 to check water wells?

Update! Yesterday morning (which was day 23!), one of the eggs hatched, then about 3pm another egg hatched. Those 2 just slid right out of their shells in minutes once they started the unzipping. Yet here was this first pipped egg that was still just sitting there like that since the day...

Is it okay to open incubator on day 22 to check water wells?

Thank you for all the advice. What I ended up doing was slipping some water down through a vent hole with a straw. Just after I posted my question, the chick that pipped started pecking out. We sat and watched it for hours. She has about an inch long zip. So we went to bed and I got up this...

Is it okay to open incubator on day 22 to check water wells?

This is the first time we've ever used an incubator and this is day 22 with 7 eggs in it. When I woke up this morning at 6am there was a pip in just one egg. It is now 5:30pm and there has been no other activity. Should I open the incubator and check the water wells? It is an LG incubator and...

    Hello from Southern Missouri

Hi! I'm new to this site. Every time I did a search for something concerning my chickens, I ran across BackyardChickens, so I thought this must be the place to be. I live with my husband and 3 children near Springfield, Missouri and we are new to chicken farming. We got our first flock of 10...
