I have 3 hens with feathers picked from above their tails...I put vaseline on the other day, and they liked it so picked even more! I had one that I separated last month and her feathers grew back, they had her in the bushes and picked her bloody again, I had to re home her...after 5 weeks...
Thanks for all your help....I really appreciate it! I feel better about it now...I put her out to free range and they didn't peck her. I'll use her eggs again. I spoke to a few chicken people my extension office referred me to. Was told by one guy "if it was bad, we'd all be dead by now".
I'm not getting any answers from the "experts"...Is there anyone who may have spoken to a vet or someone who knows about this from a trusted source? I still have the poor girl in her own crate. Well, they may still pick on her as she's not healed but I don't know how else to know what is her...
I have been on every page I could google "Chickens Blu Kote" and am getting all different answers. I have an email out to my AG extension office person, I want to see what the "expert" advice is! So confusing.... more people than not eat the eggs, but maybe not the meat...I'll let you all know...
I had a poor hen yesterday being picked on, feathers missing above her butt, then bleeding. I immediately ran to the Blu Kote. I had used it before they layed but now I'm not so sure. Anyway, I had to separate her as it did not stop. I've read the last 3 years worth of posts....can I eat the...
Thanks! I just read the page on here and it pretty much sounds the same to me....I must have read it a few times in my 5 years of research! I love this group!
I have a big coop with 6 1 1/2 year old red sex link hens, laying wonderfully, happy birds. I have what I thought were 6 barred rock 5 month olds in a tractor....ONE is a roo. He seems ok, so far. I move them around in the tractor and the RSL I let out about 1 1/2 hours before sundown. They...
I have a chicken tractor that can be moved by one person, I worry every time the wind really rips! If I know a storms coming I stake it down with plastic stakes and cords. We had it last year for 6 chicks all summer who have moved to the big coop. It didn't blow away yet! I did have my hens...
We live in the country and I was afraid my chickens would be eaten so I kept them in their run all of last year. Once the weather got nice and the snow melted away they just had a big dirt run and I kept looking on this forum for reasons to not let them out. I found out that if I let them out...
Orchid, I hear ya!!! We've lived on 8 acres 6 years and my hubby was NOT thrilled with my desire for chickens....finally got 6 last year and 6 more this year...he does go out to "talk" to them and even hugs them when they are out in the yard! It'll happen!
If it's so easy to sex a BR, why do so many people on here have roos that were supposed to be pullets lately??? I just hope he's nice. I'm a vegetarian and just want eggs....I'd never eat him! What do chicks born of Red Sex Link hens and BR roos look like???? Just thinkin' of the future! I...
I just posted a pic of my BR's and they are also 10 weeks, mine in question looks just like Mocho!! I really didn't want a roo, but if he behaves I guess it'll be ok. I have 6 year old hens that are red sex link. They all lay great. I started to think this chicken's comb was way bigger, then...
I always heard you couldn't refreeze....then I heard if food was cooked you could freeze it over again. HELP. Is this true? I had a huge pot of frozen meatballs and cooked it. I had lots left over. Can I freeze it?? Thanks!
My 8 week old barred rocks had to be put in when I moved them to their tractor for about a week. Then 1 went in. Then 2....after about a week and a half they are all in at night. Doesn't take long. I'd definately put them in.
OMG, I'm a bad chicken mother....don't know why I thought they'd figure it out. They ate and drank. They are much better. Thank you. I just thought I'd stress them out by messing with them.
