Just wondering a few ideas of how to get my girls to play nice. My oldest hen RIR 2.5 yrs old is very lethargic, uninterested in food and is getting full fledged attacked by two almost 1yr old Black Stars. When I open the run to put food in they will run her into the coop and in a corner, one of...
I could resist not sharing a pic... They are such a lovely breed. Lucy in the front loves the camera and Pecky in the back is more shy and reserved, but very vocal with the honking sound.
The top pic looks exactly like my "Lucy" and the sister is not as developed. I was concerned too that Lucy maybe Louie... What are some other things to look for the males of this breed? Do yours make almost a honking instead of a clucking sound?
Thanks for posting, and they are such pretty birds.
Ill try more "eggs"... I have 2 boxes for 2 chickens; my other 2 Black Stars aren't ready to be in the flock yet.
I love these breeds they have some fun personalities. Thanks for the idea.
I had to take the practice egg away, my Rhode Island Red would lay next to it and the Delaware that I am waiting on got a little protective of the fake egg. I think I got her aged at about 20 weeks; so really any time now she should start laying... Right???
One route I took was showing community involvement. Some towns have "Tour De Coops" and Chick Get together; also if you have a local 4H extension office check with them on showing chickens and having the family involved.
Our City council went up and down for a few months and we finally had it...
Just wondering if there are some indicating signs that a hen is going to start laying? Attitude Changes? And should I give her a "practice" egg in her nesting box? :)
