Does that mean you think it’s a parasite? I don’t want to treat with permethrin if it’s not necessary. I do have some in powder form...like a garden supplement (see attached photo) Does that work? Strange question because not ingested, but Can you eat the eggs with exposure to this product?
What is going on with my girls? One as had a bald rump for a few months now. It is not wet with yeast and doesn’t totally appear to just be plucked. Do old chickens get skin atrophy? She has still been off and on laying in her 6-7th year of life.
The other has been getting mangy looking neck...
I’m the same way so I wanted to go to a nice hatchery and this happened. They were so accommodating and expedited me upgraded olive eggers for free and a lavender Orpington that they were out of stock on but had for these emergency type deliveries. I feel bad bashing them at this point since...
I ordered female olive eggers and was sent white Cochin🤦🏼♀️
Any idea if this is a 8 week old male in the first pic? Also, my Easter egger that is suppose to be a pullet from the same hatchery has a very pink comb and is quite a bossy little thing! Picture 2 and 3. ‘She’ is also 8 weeks! Thank...
Are these saddle feathers in pic. 1 (pic 2 comb, pic 3 tail feathers)?? All the feathers are a little narrow so not sure. The other blue birchen maran received in the same order is pic 4-5.
The coop is 4x4 the run is 16x16. They free range in the yard a few hours a day. I wish it was more, but we have lost them to bobcats when they are unsupervised. The two that are more aggressive with each other were in the brooder together 15 months ago. The other 2 were introduced about a year...
I have a flock of 4 and all of a sudden my RIR that was always at the top is being attacked by the one on the bottom. This was my once timid and pecked featherless amaraucana and the others are also participating. This is not just a little peck on the back or head but rather brutal biting and...
Thank you so much! Yesterday she started to make some crazy noises (wheezing coughing), but after a little bit it cleared up. I am on the fence here. I rubbed a little vetRX on her comb and under her wings last night. May bring her down for an antibiotic injection to the local feed store today...
I need help from all you experts deciphering the info on this site about respiratory illnesses. First here is my issue:
I introduced 2 new birds to my 2 remaining birds and one of them sneezes every now and then and makes audible noise when breathing only sometimes. I have had them for 3 weeks...

I am posting this in the disease forum, because I had one of my four 11 week old chicks die a couple weeks ago. I ended up bringing her UC Davis to be euthanized and have a necropsy. We suspected Marek's given the symptoms (paralysis coming and going, antibiotics not helping, healthy appetite...
The necropsy came back undetermined but suspected marek's. My birds are vaccinated as I have found out. This is apparently not 100% effective. I wonder if I should wait until they are all 25 weeks to see if any of tre others are going to come down with it. I was hoping to introduce another bird...
Thank you for the reply. We noticed today that she was acting strangely and have concluded that she may have Marek's. We moved her to the brooder and are just crossing fingers that the others don't come down with it to. Do you know if I should remove them and try to bleach it down or figure...
I am new to chicken keeping and we left our 4 10 week old pullets in the care of someone else for 2 days in warm weather (with food and 2 water sources). When we returned home this evening (8:30pm) they were dog piled on each other as they usually are for bed. We wanted to check on them more...
