Our almost year-old Barred Rock hen has this featherless area under her vent. She is acting perfectly normal, running around and foraging, and we got an egg from her just this evening. Attached is a photo of her backside with the featherless area. Is this bacteria or something? Any help...
We were looking to get some more chicks and possibly a duckling this spring, my question is this- can one duckling be raised with chicks, or will it get lonely?:/
Thanks... I've heard Cayugas and Welsh Harlequins are quiet and calm, but hard to find. I fell in love with Cayugas (the green sheen!) and Harlequins are just adorable... I also looked into Blue Swedish but heard they could be kind of loud...
Alrighty... We were looking to purchase ducks, but we live in a close neighborhood in Maine, which can be very brutal in the winters. We need a quiet, hardy duck that isn't skittish. Anything helps, thanks!

So this is our 2 week old Ameraucana and she has a serious scissor-beak. She's at the bottom of our flock's pecking order, but she's very nice. Help please?
So... I have a 3-week old RIR, a 1-week old Easter Egger, and a 6-day old Barred Rock, in the same brooder. We have their coop ready, but we're wondering when to put them out there. I've heard 8 weeks, but our RIR is 3 weeks. Should we put her out first, or all of them at the same time. Any help...
