What heated waterer do you guys use?

If concerned about a 250 watt heater in 5 gal plastic bucket, consider a riser on the bottom using small terra cotta flower pot, saucer or ceramic plate from Thrift store.

    New to Backyard Chickens

A wire predator apron at ground level around exterior of run is a good idea. I would not recommend a hardware cloth or a fencing floor as TroyerGal stated, they like to scratch and have solid footing as a henhouse floor.

    Hey Y'all from Virginia.

Been lurking here far too long...it's time to change that. I have had chickens in the distant past and have been anxious again, as if I need another hobby. My bride and I moved to Va following retirement. The area is heavily tree'd. No shortage of roost poles here. Long story short: After...

    New Chicken Coop and Run

Very well done. Compact yet with all of the requisite amenities. Well thought out. Nicely coopscaped. Mine in progress, will be similar, but 6x18 and open run under elevated hen house. Am curious if there is anything you'd change in retrospect ?

    URGENT roost 2x4s

I have found that if outside roosts are placed higher, the birds are likely to choose the higher elevation to roost overnight and not go in the hen house. Keep any outside roosts at same or lower to avoid...

Getting ready to build a new coop and have questions

The covered run by the way, seems too have been well thought out and well constructed. Make sure that any insulation is covered. The birds will otherwise make a mess of it.

Getting ready to build a new coop and have questions

Others may agree to disagree, but in my experience, a pull out cleaning tray has issues of its own while seemingly a great idea in concept. If too large, it could be too heavy. With a tight fit, it may not slide back into place correctly when bedding and other debris blocks the return path. My...

post your chicken coop pictures here!

Very nice coop " Detz ". It appears very well thought out and will meet many requirements. . It is definately a design idea for my planning archives. One question though: what is the size of the hen house portion & how many birds was it planned for ? Thanks for the ideas.
