My Hamkin boy grew to be a glorious cockerel with, gold pencilled with a Hamburg tail, Pekin feet and the most handsome combination of the two breeds in every other way ....... Unfortunately Mr Fox took a liking to him too and I lost him two weeks ago
My previous roosters got along fine from hatching to adolescence as they grew up together, once they were fully mature they were rehomed apart from two who lived together as batchelors until they were around 30 weeks. Once the hens they were with were mature there was strictly one rooster per...
Thank you, Ronnie and Reggie it is then! If they are anything like their father they will be huge!
Fortunately I have had a great deal of success in finding good homes for my extra cockerels having rehomed 7 from my last years hatch.
Well, I put 6 eggs into the incubator of which 5 were fertile and 3 hatched. All the eggs were white and quite pointed as my Hamburg hen lays them.
Here are two of the resulting chicks :
However, it seems that one of my Pekin hens also lays a white pointed egg rather than the ligh brown...
These are my four month old chicks, the larger two are of mixed breed and look male to me and so much like their dad looked at that age so they are called Ronnie and Reggie for now. I'd love for it to be proved otherwise so I'd love some input.
The Polish, Ziggy, was from a mail order...
I have four chicks that hatched at the same time and have been in the brooder together since leaving the incubator. They were a month old yesterday. Two are second generation of my LF one is a Polish bantam and the other is a Silkie bantam.
They are all just about fully feathered.

I have a lovely gold pencilled Hamburg rooster called Patch. He is 26 weeks old and has his own little flock of 3 hens.
Recently he has been crowing at night and it seems more so if he sees signs of life from the house.
It is just before 5am and I just had to get up and go downstairs for...
I have a 25 week old Gold pencilled Hamburg bantam roo running with a 25 week old silver spangled hamburg bantam hen. They are both gorgeous birds. I am wondering whether to hatch any of her eggs but I'm not sure what markings or colourings to expect.
Has anyone experience of such a match? What...
I'm so hooked that I'm seriously considering moving out of town to a more rural location so that I can have a lot more birds mine are in a back garden environment but I am very lucky with my neighbours. I canvassed 6 houses in each direction and none are bothered about the presence of the...
It certainly is addictive and I must admit caught me by surprise. I only started keeping chickens when I rescued one from squalor from a tenant at one of the houses I look after, I involved animal welfare and the hen was at risk of being culled so I took her in.
Two rescues and three hatches...
It took a lot of time, effort and miles but was well worth it, I've done my boys proud and keep in touch with several of their new keepers.
I've just done a fairly unsuccessful hatch with 3/16 mail order eggs hatching and 3/6 of our own eggs hatching but unfortunately we had 2 deaths so I have...
Last year I did a few hatches resulting in 9 roosters and 15 hens.
After realising that I was too attached to the boys to even consider growing them for the table (the original plan) I kept them until they grew into adolescence and set about looking for homes for them.
Bo and Chip, two Light...
