Hello, i have scoured the posts, searched, searched, and searched. i found some very helpful info, and some confusing as well. I know no one here wants to diagnose anything and i would never rely on that, but just seeking opinions. and yes i know there are a wide variety of opinions in such...
It's crazy windy and rainy out my way in the lower east valley!! I'm so worried for my girls out there, I keep looking out the window with a flashlight to make sure they're ok. I need to see about more protection from the wind and rain, all day though they just stood right in it when there was...
yeah, i have two very funny BOs. when one is in the box the other one is bawk bawkin away doin the song for the other one laying! i think she's lonely and trying to help her along so she'll come out of the box and join her in bug finding! I need to get another chicken or two since my tiny flock...
A girl i work with says, " I cant believe you're gonna eat your pet's babies!" She is finding it hard to belive that the eggs she eats are exactly the same, and she says its different anyways because they are my pet's unborn babies! I dont have a rooster, which also baffles her as to how they...
Sorry to burst in off subject.... just wondering if anyone wants a beautiful rooster. He was sold as a RIR but i'm sure he's not pure breed or is production variety. I Can only have hens, he started crowing yesterday. He is a gentle, and fairly tame, gorgeous big boy. He's great with the hens...
So... guess i jinxed myself. He tried his first pathetic crow this morning at around 6:00 am. Oh well, loved him while he was here... anyone in the phoenix area of arizona want a production red rooster, really pretty and such a nice boy!! Not the best picture but you get the idea.
Thanks everyone! It seems like such a long wait, i hope the other girls get the hint and start the egg making too!! Yes Goldie is a buff orpington, and i also have another named Buffy, and a barred rock named Barracka! Cant wait till they all start to lay regularly! No second egg today from...
I really was starting to think it would never happen! I watched Goldie all morning getting very worked up and turning round and round in the nest. I had to go to work and later got the call that she finally layed our first egg!!!!!!
I'll keep my fingers crossed... he crows he has to leave. I live in a suburban HOA neighborhood why are the roos always so pretty and so personable, they make you love them!
I wait and wait to hear that familiar sound... but nothing yet. And as i write this i think, " it's gonna be tomorrow". My roo is so beautiful with full green shimmery tail feathers, shiny sickle feathers and a big ol' spikey comb... but not a peep! He has even "mated" with my hens ( who refuse...
This is my roo just hanging out in his favorite dust hole. I love roos, but he will have to go as soon as he crows, he's not legal in my neighborhood.
I hope the link works... i have no idea how to do this
bout time the roo vote showed up! I myself am leaning towards male... but it doesnt hurt to hope for a female right?! just a pain when you raise them for a while and spend time, only to possibly have to get rid of them. I live in a no-rooster neighborhood. We shall see, only time will tell...
:)thanks everyone. im crossing all my fingers and toes on this one! she/he is like half the size of my 15 week olds and has more than twice the size comb! please keep blessing me with all your pullet thoughts and wishes!
sorry, no idea how old. im guessing around 8-10 weeks maybe? this is the last one from the ever-so-unreliable "hatchery" selling pullets. Little red is its name and she/he is very handle-able and friendly, just has very large and red comb and wattles for being so little. no crowing yet, my...
so... another one for you folks. Roo or hen? i have a feeling many will see the comb and instantly decide, but can there be hope for a large comb baby girl?
I fully agree with the above post about arizonanessa! I got some girls from her and couldnt be happier. i would make the drive out there again and im way out in queen creek. the one place out here (that isnt a feed store), was less than wonderful and disappointing. not to be an advertisement...
so, i just bought some grower feed today and i'll use that for now. of course they get treats like grapes, watermelon, mealworms, leafy green stuff, ect. thanks, everyone! Valentinebaby- you think NHR not RIR, cause thats what they said she was and i dont believe them. either way she's the...
thanks everyone, that helps. I figured it was a bit too early for layer. Three of my older hens are about 13 weeks and the other one is totally unknown but i'd guess about 8 weeks. so when the other ones start to lay...the little one will be eating layer pretty early as there isnt really a way...
so, my girls wont start to lay for a few months but i've been feeding them layer feed. I'm wondering if i should wait till they start to lay. I also have one girl (hope its a girl) who is much younger then the others and hasnt quite feathered out in her neck yet... should i definitely be feeding...
