I'd suggest talking to the people who live close to you that bought from the same hatchery you are going to buy from. So many chickens are so different, depending on the lines.
I have 6 industrial laying red hybrids. 4 are awesome with me and my 3 young kids. They are carried around, taught...
My dogs like the chicken poop - I have had to divide my yard to keep them away from it. After 5 days of nasty nasty liquid poop and keeping the dogs in the kitchen (linoleum MUCH easier to clean than carpet)...I have built a small fence to keep them out of the chicken area. Too nasty for me...
I have 6 ISA Red chicks (commercial layer hybrid) . They are just over 6 weeks old.
They were all developing comparably from day 1. We went away, and missed their 2.5 week - 3.5 week development.
When we returned, one chick seemed WAY behind the others with respect to feathering. Her growth...

Any...
I have three kids 7 years old and younger. They are wild kids. Crazy, running around, tree climbing, knight-playing, busy busy kids.

When we returned, one chick seemed WAY behind the...

I will stop worrying about it. They are out during the day when it is nice on grass (when it is raining, and at night, they are in a solid bottomed dog...
I have six 4.5 week old red-sex-linked hens. (super sweet - my first chickens)
In all the books I have read, and all the people that tell me about chickens, they all talk about how chickens eat their scraps (apple cores, carrot peels - basically composting stuff).
My girls won't eat any of our...
