    Molting Twice?

I agree, it's getting cold and I have a few birds that haven't even started their first molt yet!

    Treating for Mites

Thanks for your response. I sprayed everyone down, cleaned and swept the coop, and then practically drenched the coop. I'm hopeful that I got them all!

    Molting Twice?

Possibly, she does have mites (I treated her and all the others for them this morning), but some of her feathers that haven't been effected my the mites are falling out. It seems to be in the same way that she molted before.

    Treating for Mites

Last week I noticed some mites on one of my chickens. I ordered Elector PSP, it arrived today, and tomorrow I'm going to tackle spraying all of my chickens and coop. Before I begin though I have a few questions... Do just spray the neck and the vent area on the chickens, or do I need to get...

    Molting Twice?

The beginning of September my Light Brahma molted like crazy, and her feathers were falling out in clumps. Since then her feathers have all grown back in again. Tonight I went out to put the girls to bed, and her feathers were all falling out again as if she was beginning another molt. We do...

Removing Day Old Chicks from Hen

My hen hatched chicks for one of my friends. I would like to remove the chicks to give them to my friend sooner rather then later.. Is there anything special that I need to do prior to removing them? I imagine she will be sad, how long will this last?

    New Hampshire!

I have two roos available too in Charlestown, NH. One is a buff colored sebright. and the other is a gold colored, bantam cochin. Both are friendly with people, but I have three roosters right now and my hens need a break!

    Feather Picker

I've been feeding the higher protein for a couple of months, does that sound like it could still potentially be the issue?

    Feather Picker

The coop is a large shed converted into a coop. The floor is a 10X12. The roosting area goes along two of the walls and is big enough that over half of the roost they don't even use. The enclosed portion of the run is about twice that, and then we have another section attached to it that the...

    Feather Picker

I have a feather picker in the flock and I'm having a hard time determining who it is. I'm on this vacation this week and I've been observing them as often as possible, and other then the occasional squabble (where no feather picking occurs, just chasing) they are for the most part peaceful...

    New Hampshire!

Did you try looking on https://www.meyerhatchery.com/productinfo.a5w?prodID=BAMS ? They don't have any available for a while, but they do have some for later in the year.

    More Protein

Thank you for this, and from the post that you were quoting. I was feeling like I was doing something wrong... my chickens don't get an overabundance of treats IMO. They usually only get something once or twice a week. I do however live in NH so they have to burn energy to keep themselves...

    silkie sexing

PXFLURRY: Yours looks like a rooster to me just based on how my two pullets vs. my one rooster look. Yours has a much more developed comb and wattles then even my rooster did at 12 weeks.

    More Protein

Why do they even make layer feed if it isn't appropriate for them? I guess I will have to exchange the bag I bought on Sunday!

    More Protein

Most of them are laying, but I have a few slower growers (jersey giant) that haven't started yet.

    More Protein

Occasionally they get left over scraps, mostly veggies, but they had a turkey carcus at thanksgiving. When we have super cold nights I give them scratch. Would 18% be enough?

    More Protein

Is there any harm in feeding them grower feed? Would they be missing other things that they need that way?

    More Protein

I have one hen, a barred rock, that has been pulling feathers out of three of her flock mates and eating them. I have 18 hens and it seems as though she is the only one doing this. I currently have her separated from the other chickens (in a crate located inside the chicken coop), and I would...

    silkie sexing

I was just curious because I have three and they are all different in size, but still bantam sized. My smallest one appears to be a rooster! I would love a standard sized silkie I'd the existed!
