We have 4 Muscovy hens and 3 drakes (too many, we know, trying to find homes). Our hens are hatching ducklings what seems like every other day. The first hen hatched 4 ducklings and day by day we watched them disappear until there were none left. The next hen hatched 8 ducklings, same story. I...
Hello!
We have 9 eggs under our speckled sussex hen and she is doing a great job tending to her nest. This is our first time allowing a hen to hatch eggs. It has been 10 days since we put the eggs under her. I tried to candle the eggs last night, but most are black copper marans and 10th...
I have 2 BLR wyandottes. Their combs are very different. 5 weeks. No redness or wattles in either.
Chick 1:
Chick 2:
I also have an australorp. 4 weeks old. Acts very pullet-like, but this comb and wattles has me worried. Haven't had an australorp chick before.
I've got this chick -- 7 weeks old this week. Coloring makes me think pullet but her comb has started to get a little red. Thoughts? The light is shining a bit on her comb in these pics.
We know we have a new rat infestation and have taken measures to keep them out of the coop. We also got a barn cat that we're acclimating since traps only worked twice. One of our hens lays her egg every day on the floor of the goat shed underneath the goat bench. She has never pecked her egg...
I have 3 EEs I'm trying to figure out if they are pullets or cockerels. They are just over 3 weeks old. I know it still may be too early to tell, but if anything screams obvious to anyone I would love to know. If I have a bunch of boys I would like to go get more chicks before too much time...
Hello!
We have a just over 7 month old speckled sussex that we raised from a chick with 2 others (RIR and gold laced wyandotte). All 3 started laying very consistently back in August. A few weeks later, the SS seemed to go a little broody. This was easily fixed by taking her off the nest a few...
This is a gold sex-linked just about 9 weeks old. Trying to figure out if she is a cockerel or pullet. Her wattles/comb aren't very red, but her tail feathers don't look very defined. We have a delaware (same age) that i'm 99% sure is a cockerel and he has bright red comb and wattles. Thanks!!
