Our Roo is about 10 months old. He is having breathing problems. We can hear him gurggle and cough. He's very lethargic and not crowing. He's also doing that streching of his neck that I have heard described by other members.
We want to give him some antibiotics that we have mixed in his water...
I would pick white because I can see them better in thier coop. But I 've seen posts about how thw makes it easier for predators to see them also. If your free ranging that's something to keep in mind.
We keep fresh feed and water with ours around the clock.
When they were a few days old I'd get up and check on them sometimes 2 or 3 o'clock am and they would be awake playing around eating etc...
If they eat too much they just take a nap and then do it all over again.
We've got a couple of hens that go Broody pretty regular. One is doing it right now.
They don't usually have any eggs under them. They make all of those noises and get all puffed up. They look real tuff but with ours its all show.
We just reach in an pick them up and put them out so they can eat...
Hi Cory, We searched for quite sometime with the different hatcheries but could not get a small amount sexed. We ended up getting 25 and culling.( not fun )
We also ordered from our local feed store. They combined our very small order withe one of their orders and it worked out great.
Good Luck...
Hi Folks, I guess I'll toss in my two cents worth. Feed does go bad at some point. The guy at our feed store where we buy our feed and some of our chicks says it should be kept in a plastic tub and then for only a month or so.
It has a tendency to get those tiny little bugs.
Plus if it doesn't...
Each feed store has their own policy probably. We have gone in and bought what they had when we first got started and that worked out fine.
Now that we know what breeds we want to keep we ordered 4 hens and 1 roo." Porcelin D'uccle". They combined that with their next order and we got just what...
They will share the nest no problem. Sometimes they'll even get in the same box at the same time even if there's an empty one right next to it. Go figure....
Hey rooster,
Welcome to our world. You'll be making adjustments to your coop every now and then.
One might be to put a steep pitch on the top of the nesting boxes otherwise they will be sitting up there pooping and creating quite a mess.
I put about a 6/12 on the one I built but it wasn't...
Your run should be as big as you can make it and still be secure. You want them to get exercise, Right? I've seen them approx 20" high 24" wide and 48" long. It's just not much room to run around.
It's up to you...
Keeping Your Roosters Sane
The Easy Chicken

The Bad Bird
Nasty roosters have long been a part of keeping chickens. Lots of people remember that evil bird from when they were a kid, how he'd wait for you to take your eyes off him for just a minute, then pounce on you. It's a big...
We had 2 Frizziles that were the sweetest things when they were babies. We thought they were hens because they were so sweet. When they came of age they turned into Tazmanian devils. They had everyone on edge. They even started attacking us. This was all after being hand fed and held everyday...
Here's a couple of shots of our home. We have our owners trained so well. Every couple of weeks they come out and add on something. We've got it made in the shade here in The Sunshine State. This one is just a little window.
This is where we sleep at night. The older ones have claimed the top...
Hi Jamie, I've had to do this several times and it doesn't seem to get any easier.
I reserched this quite a bit. I bought some starting fluid but just before I used it I read that it burns their eyes and lungs before it kills them so I didn't feel good about using that.
I decided I wanted the...
Thanks 54,
We only want about 10 to 15 Sultan hens so we like to get the best quality we can. We just got an order of 15 from Ideal but they wouldn't sex them for us. So at this point it looks like we have around 3 to 4 hens and 12 Roos.
Thanks Ron
