Those are a little lighter than sports weight, and they usally are a poly blend. 100% cotton would be more "breathable" in the hot, humid summer.

The grass in the chicken yard, they free-range in a 1/2 acre area, is way greener than the grass on my side of the fence. Their fertilizer is the best!

I would think along the lines as to what a company would charge for day old chicks, depending on the breed. The people you are hatching for would not have to pay shipping and could possible be there and watch the hatching process. It's amazing to watch every time

I was able to build this coop for just the cost of the hinges. All the wood was free, the paint and shingles we had left over from building our house.

I have my thermosate attached to the hardware cloth that is in front of the lightbulb. That way the back side is close to the heat.

Try putting your heat sorce closer to the thermosat. The temp should stay more regulated.

After building our house, you would think building a coop would be a breeze. We had a plastic shed, which we sold and keep the floor. Had some scrap wood and bought the rest. I am now building a small coop , all from free wood.

Could you possibly buy some fertile eggs from those who have roosters? The hen will only sit on them if she has become broody. I don't know if you can force a hen to sit.

A friend of ours has a very mean roo that was chasing the children so he tied a string around both of the roo's feet and allowed enough slack for him to walk but not be able to jump and spur someone.

I have a hen that has just hatched out 8 eggs and it was all done in her nest box. The other hens tend to leave her alone. Why don't you put some mors eggs under your broody? I put whatever has been laid for the day under one broody. She doesn't care who laid them.
