    Egg Eating Flock

I have changed my feed and added a toy along with checking eggs three times a day. This seems to be helping but I am planning to cull the flock this week and add a feeding tray of oyster shells along with the pulverized egg shells that I bake and provide as well. Ceramic eggs are on their way...

    Egg Eating Flock

Thank you for chiming in as those two issues seemed to be the most prominent and since I am not going to rebuild my coop overcrowding can be taken care of now that I know that could be an issue. No, shells have not been found and the eggs being laid are healthy eggs. One miniature egg was...

    Egg Eating Flock

I actually did a bit of research on sites like this before building for size. 2-3 hens per nesting box. 2 square feet of space per hen provided you offer vertical space.

    Egg Eating Flock

All good info. I have a small door that is open always to access the run from the coop. I also have some clear plastic corrugated sheeting on the black and side to prevent rain being blown in from wind. They are against the forest in the back of our yard and very protected. Thank you for the...

    Egg Eating Flock

I’m not sure about the blend but chickens are not the same age. Some are this years and some last. There are a few three years old and I can’t tell which ones they are. Yes. Dormer is vented for circulation and soffit vents between the coop and run. Nests and storage area are in the bump out so...

I feed them a combination of scratch grains, egge layer protein, pulverized shells, kitchen scraps and garden greens. I also add leaf litter from the yard cleanup and dried worms every now and then.

    Egg Eating Flock

I have 16 birds in a 8x8 coop with a 15x8 run. 6 nesting boxes. I find the wet spots in the nesting boxes from the eaten eggs but I witnessed a bird lay an egg from the run roost and the birds jumped at it as soon as it hit the ground. Nesting boxes are 12x12x12.

    Egg Eating Flock

What do you do about egg eating chickens? I put the mustard egg in this morning and they ate the thing eggshell and all. Then while I was standing in the run inspecting them for mustard face, a hen layer an egg from the one of the roosting branches in the run and nearly the whole flock...

Please stop pooping in the nesting boxes!

There was a time when the eggs were very clean and collecting was a simple process. I have introduced four new pullets into the coop last year and they are still roosting in the nesting boxes and now they are filthy and NONE of the hens are laying eggs anymore. I have a light, a run, they are...

    Self-Sustaining Coop

The following plans are my own design as we had a small moveable coop that we experimented for three years. When we were ready to commit we hand stacked the rock wall and created a drain field underneath the coop site as we receive 13 feet of rain each year here and the coop smelled because the...
