OK, like I said, my chickens don't go up on the roost at night. We have 24 that are 10 weeks old. They have been in their coop for about 4 weeks. We put the main roost about 6 feet off the ground with another roost about 3 feet off the ground under it. The main roost is about 9 feet long and...
They were all out of the brooder the same amount of time. I just thought since they were all the same age it wouldn't matter when I introduced them. They are all about the same size. I just don't understand why the one we put back in did just fine. I would never have left her in there if...
Ok a couple of weeks back I had posted that I had three chicks that had their tail feathers plucked out by the other chicks in the brooder. They are now 4 weeks old and I was able to integrate one chick back into my flock. I tried with the other 2, but as soon as we put them in the others...
My son did watch the humidity, and said it never changed when we had it open. It was the same as before we opened it. I guess I am just a worry wart mom and I have to try to help.
Well, I posted on another thread that the first one died. We had 2 more hatch and one had a defect and needed to be culled. We took the last living one and put him in the brooder. We do have 2 more pipped, and they are still moving in there... so, we are again waiting...
Well, we had 2 more hatch, one had it's intestines coming out of a hole in it's side. So, my husband took care of that one and the first one that died. We moved the living one to the brooder, he seems to be doing good. We have it nice and warm for him.
We saw that we had 2 more pipped, but...
OK, our first baby chick that hatched last night has just died in the bator.
I have 2 other chicks in there running around. Should I open the bator and remove the dead one? I am afraid it will make the others sick, but won't I cause a draft that will also make them sick?
I am so sad that...
I love to watch mine catch a moth and everyone else chase them around wanting some of it. My son goes to our back door and catches more and throws them into the brooder.
YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We have a baby!
Our first one hatched and my husband just sent a picture...
Not a really good one, because we don't want to open the bator, but here it is...
Oh I forgot my husband says he thought he saw one of the others rocking... Maybe we will get 4... I can't stand the waiting...
That's great at least one is rocking...hopefully more will start for you soon....
When I got home from work this morning there was 1 pip. Now, 18 eggs, but only 3 pips... waiting ....and still waiting...
3 pips are better than none, but ...still waiting...
Also, I am back at work.... Husband is egg sitting...
OK, UPDATE..... I now have 2 chicks with their tail feathers completely picked out. I had given the chicks some apples and a squash plus I was watching the heat closer. Then I went back to that room and they were picking at another chicks tail feathers. I have put the 2 newly picked at ones...
My husband says nothing yet... I am at work. Americana-chick are your eggs rocking yet?
I am so excited I hope at least a few hatch...our first batch was a complete failure. It got too hot in the incubator.
We have done everything we could to increase our humidity. It went up a little, but not above 70%. I guess it could be condensation, I was concerned because it is brown.
To increase our humidity we put 2 bowls of water with a sponge in them (so no open water for chicks to drown) and then...
Help, my eggs are due to hatch tomorrow and this is our first hatch. I see one in there that has a brown foam on the outside of it, is this a bad egg? Should I remove it? Is it normal? Does this ever happen to normal eggs? I am worried it will explode and harm our other eggs. I see...
OK, yes I do have a reliable thermometer. Brand new and it was checked with another one in the room before use.
They do already get baby grit sprinkled on their food.
Do I have to use plain yogurt? I only have flavored right now and I live in the boonies and there isn't a local store open...
Ok, my 12 day old chicks have pecked another one's tail feathers off. We have a brooder that is 16 sq feet (I think), with 24 chicks in it. Heat was 80-85 degrees. Waterer and 2 feeding troughs. We do have a "roost" going across the center of the brooder, just for fun to see if they would...
