    Amdro fire ant killer pellets

I just found out that my landlord used Amdro fire ant killer pellets in my yard yesterday. He is removing an old fountain and pond and found lots of ants in the foundation. My chickens have been in the area eating the bugs that have been disturbed. He doesn't have the bag anymore so I cannot...

    What breed???

It's funny that you would say emu. The lady that rescued her said she thought she had a baby ostrich. We have emus and rheas at the sanctuary and the eggs are giant (bigger than softballs). The emu eggs are the most beautiful deep teal color. I'm hoping she is a she. I would like to add her...

    Honeybees

Over the last week I have noticed more and more bees around my feeders. My girls don't seem to be worried about them. How would I find the hive? I would be interested to see the hive but I would not want to disburb it.

Doesn't it look like these girls are ready to lay....

My RIR started laying exactly at 22 weeks and 4 days (dec 19). I have had 16 eggs from 15 birds since. It's sooooo exciting to find those little treasures every day. They look so cute in the nest boxes. It shouldn't be long for your birds. Happy New Year!

    Post your FIRST EGG pics!

First Egg! Found it when I came home from work today. I asked the girls who did it but no one took responsibility. I can't believe how exciting it was to find the egg.

Thanks to everyone who responded. I'm glad she is a she. I hatched her from an egg. Her parents are a questions. My neighbor has a mix of chickens and they let me have an egg to hatch but we don't know which bird layed the egg. I have 15 RIR pullets that are 2 weeks older than her and she...

SKUNKS - Predators or just curious?

Try some repel tactics. Soak some rolled up (long ways) rags in household ammonia and lay them around the area that is being destroyed in the late evening. The ammonia is a strong smell deterrent for most wildlife. As the rags dry the smell will go away. I would do this several nights...

My Wyandottes have turned into Velociraptors!

I also raise my own crickets. Right now I have 2 large and 2 small containers of various sized crickets growing. I started with a group of adults (500) and gave them a dirt box to lay eggs. At the end of 2 weeks I removed the dirt box and put it another container. The babies continued to...

    Chick ideal weight

Thanks, I thought it was probably just because they are growing so fast. They are very active and seem healthy and happy. Just being an over protective mom I guess. These are my first chickens and my husband and I are having a great time with them.

    Chick ideal weight

I have 15 RIR pullets. They are 9 weeks old and have been growing well. Today when I was spending time with them I was holding them and they felt a little thin to me. Their "keel" felt a little sharp to me. I'm an animal caretaker at a wildlife rehabilitation center and I'm comparing the...

Light on in coop at night???

Thanks for all the responses. I have had the lights off now since my original post and everyone is doing fine. Our weather has been very hot and I think having even the patio lights on keep the night time temps up in the coops. Thanks again everyone.

Light on in coop at night???

I have 15 RIR that are 6 weeks old today. I have been leaving the lights(very low power patio string lights) on in the coop at night. They come into the coop on their own now. Is it OK to turn the lights off now when I "put them to bed"?
