Yellow buildup and hard swollen sinuses?

I can and did before to get a prescription for his antibiotic. They aren’t proficient in bird care, though - but they’re the only vet that will see a chicken that’s within a couple hours. I’ll call tomorrow and see if they can do a swab to determine definitively what it is.

Yellow buildup and hard swollen sinuses?

He doesn’t have any lesions though, nor does anyone else in the flock? If it was fowl pox it wouldn’t be a new thing and I’d expect symptoms from the rest of the flock by now... I’ll look into the treatment though. Any other suggestions?

Yellow buildup and hard swollen sinuses?

My little rooster had a type of cold. I got antibiotic medication and the whole flock was on it for a couple weeks. The rooster now, instead of having runny snot, has rock hard sinuses and has this yellow buildup in his mouth. What is this and what meds can anyone recommend? He’s acting...

    Black satin silkie breeders?

Satin silkies are just silkies without the gene for their fluffy feathers. Others call them smooth silkies and the like.

Hen chewed up by possum - Bag Balm?

Thanks, everyone - we've spent a lot of time locking down all our coops and runs so that nothing can ever get in, just for a door to be left open a bit past dark and this to happen... this summer we had a whole quartet of raccoons breaking into one of the runs nightly through the CEILING to...

Hen chewed up by possum - Bag Balm?

I just went to check on her and take the photos and she didn't feel as warm to the touch as she should, given that she was in a warm room, so I went to get hot water bottles for her and when I came back she took her last breath in front of me. Thank you for your advice and kind thoughts - I...

Hen chewed up by possum - Bag Balm?

I would have dispatched the possum immediately but all I had with me was my bare hands... I grabbed it, threw it in my panic to check Ruby, it disappeared back into the woods. My phone's dead at the moment so pictures will be posted in a little while - thank you for the well-wishes in the mean...

Hen chewed up by possum - Bag Balm?

Yes, we're setting the first traps tonight. It was just a half-pint teenage possum. We've had possums around forever and they've never caused a problem, so we've only really been vigilant about coons - last night the door was left open a little longer than usual and Ruby, being broody, didn't...

Hen chewed up by possum - Bag Balm?

Last night I walked into the coop to find a possum gnawing on my poor Silkie girl, Ruby. Her back and tail are missing a lot of skin and the meat is pretty mangled, but I don't think her body cavity was punctured. I gently rinsed her off, sprayed her heavy with BluKote, and syringe-fed her...

    The EMERGENCY Thread!!!

A 1 month old smooth silkie chick of mine had a rectal prolapse this morning. He was walking around before I "put it back in", but now he's just peeping and very dull. I'm worried he'll pass. I have a crippled silkie chick who flops on his side a lot, and when I walked into the coop, the...

1 month old chick with rectal prolapse

I got it all back in there this time, it looked like it was really fresh still and not at all dry, but I know this is prone to happening again. A detailed rundown of the best things to do would be awesome.

1 month old chick with rectal prolapse

I just walked out into the coop for the first time this morning and one of my usually excited bundles was acting real down. As it turns out he's got a few inches of anus/small intestine hanging out. I'll try to get a picture posted, but he's small enough for me to hold with one hand still and...

    Cross Breeds!!!!

My, how I've missed this thread! I haven't visited in a long while! Here are my lovelies. First is my silkie x BCM Haru... the first photo is from when he was a little younger and still growing in his fresh plumage, but the second one really captures how majestic he can be nicely, I think...

    Duramyacin 72-200 liquid - oral/dosage?

I have a hen with a rather deep gouge in her side and some rough breathing. I was recommended teramyacin, but my local TSC doesn't carry it - only liquid duramyacin 72-200. I can not do injections - can the liquid go in her drinking water?? If so, what would be the recommended amount per...

Multiple Roos - One Younger/Raised from chick

I have four roosters for my own small flock. No where near the correct ratio, but it's what I have, LOL! Two of them are two years old, one was hatched out early this spring, and the other in late summer. The younger two have been raised around the other two roosters their whole lives. All...

3 or 4 year old rooster is it wry neck?

Make sure he's well hydrated... I have a silkie hen who's a bit special and can't figure out how to drink out of most waterers, and whenever she gets even a little dehydrated she flops just like that. It's probably not a normal problem to have, but it's worth a shot!

4 month old mix chicks... boys or girls??

Ah, wonderful!! I was suspicious when they weren't getting in any sharp saddle feathers... I'm so glad that they're pullets! Thanks to both of you!
