    Hatching at high altitude

Great news! I’ve settled on going with the 360 incubator. Now if my Faverolles would start laying, I could test it out.

    Hatching at high altitude

Thanks for the reply! I’ve been looking at the nurture right incubator as it seems really good for the money. What elevation are you at and what have your hatch rates been like with your own eggs?

    Hatching at high altitude

Hello all! I moved a year ago to EL7100 in New Mexico and about to try hatching our own eggs in an incubator for the first time. We’ve always used a broody before. My question is: what type of incubator have you fellow high altituders used with success? I’ve heard that in dry climates a still...

    Hatching at high altitude??

Hi everyone, I’m looking to incubate at 7,500 ft here in New Mexico. I was wondering if anyone else here is a high altitude/ dry air hatcher, what incubator they use, and what tips they have! So far, I’ve heard that still air incubators work best for low humidity areas. Oh and one other thing to...

    Jaguar bantam chick?

They were pretty clueless. I asked if they had an invoice from the hatchery with the breeds they might be, and they just referred me to a poster with the usual roadisland red, Cornish, sexlink. When I pointed out that none of these breeds are grey, they just said well they’re girls

    Jaguar bantam chick?

Ok, since you guys are so good at the breed guessing, any idea of these guys? Same feed store, I’m guessing blue Cochins because of the feathered legs, but I really don’t know.

    Jaguar bantam chick?

Thanks so much for letting me know, I’m really glad she’s a Campine, they look beautiful! I have no idea how she got to that feed store, but I’m glad I picked her. She is small but doing just fine with the naked necks.

    Jaguar bantam chick?

I picked this little wee lady out of an assortment of chicks at my local feed store. They couldn’t tell me her breed and they had no invoices to let me know what she might be! She was the only one that looked like this and is pretty small so I’m guessing she’s a bantam (no other bantams in the...

    Faverolles Thread

Maybe someone can help me, I know someone on this thread bought SF chicks from a breeder in Texas about a year ago (maybe a little more) and they were beautiful! The breeder had a Facebook page and I’m wondering if anyone knows the site/breeder I’m talking about? I’m looking to buy more chicks...

white Showgirl rooster in Amarillo Texas

I have an excellent quailty white Showgirl rooster. He's about 9 months old with white feathers that have buff coloring at the tips. He has excellent skin coloring, no red leakage, and full silkie feathering. He can be bred with silkies or turkens to produce showgirls. We're letting him go...

    Opossum wound, which antibiotics?

Well little Sumo is still alive and kicking, despite missing all her muscle + skin along the top of her wing. The bone is still exposed and there is no skin to cover it since the possum ripped it off. She eats & drinks heartily, walks around in her recovery room and seems generally ok for such a...

    Opossum wound, which antibiotics?

Just gave her the amoxicillin and cleaned all her wounds out again with water, saline and a mild mixture of betadine. I finished with a spray of vetericyn and made a little sock covering for her wing. She’s doing much better then a day ago, eating and drinking on her own, she’s even grumpy at me...

    Opossum wound, which antibiotics?

I have human amoxicillin pills, Can I crush those and give it to her mixed with water orally? Also, she is a small little silkie, she weighs 2 pounds so any idea of dosage. I had been packing the skin around her exposed bone with neosporin but I feel like that is just trapping the germs in. I...

    Opossum wound, which antibiotics?

my favorite hen got attacked by a opossum 2 nights ago. It got her by the wing and body and the bone on the wing is exposed. We got her right away and flushed the wounds with peroxide, irrigated them to get the debris out, rubbed betadine on them and finished off with triple antibiotic cream...

Could use some help on chicken eye problem!

This is how she is holding her head constantly now. I went and got her the Tylan 50 and have given her the first dose. I also made the mixture for wry neck from vitamin e tablets, selenium and poly vi sol and gave her some as well. The poor thing can’t drink very well so I’ve been giving her...

Could use some help on chicken eye problem!

Well Winnie has gotten worse this morning. She can’t stand straight and rolls her head around. I’m wondering if this is wry neck or an inner ear problem. We’ve asked our vet friend to come look at her. Does anyone know if treating her for wry neck would hurt her if she doesn’t have it?

Could use some help on chicken eye problem!

I wondered about that as we have a young rooster who is pretty bad at his wooing and resorts at grabbing occasionally which is usually around the head area. Do the eyeballs tend to show signs of being pecked?

Could use some help on chicken eye problem!

So I thought a photo might be helpful. I just did a check inside her mouth, it’s all clear. We cleaned and checked out her ears and they are fine. Just flushed and checked her eye again and it’s fine. Also pupils are reactive and dilate with light so she hasn’t gone blind. There is a tiny scab...
