My flock is now 26 months old, & have gone on an EGG LAYING STRIKE!!! Nary one teenie tiny egg in almost 2 weeks!! Almost as if someone has flipped a shutoff switch! This is deplorable (on my part) & even my roo sounds like he has a sore throat. My hens & the roo have been losing feathers all...
My birds feather loss problem has been going on literally, for MONTHS!~ I personally can NOT agree w/the MOLTING answer everyone seems to be offering. This has been happening to my chickens since prior to Spring of this year! Are the majority of us BYC folk "rookies" when it comes to this...
Most everything you see "outside" @ a "Sally Store" is either going bad, wilted, etc. They have a regular monthly program for food giveaways where the public applies for help. I occasionally DONATE my girls eggs to the store also. I don't feel bad "recycling" this so called give away food. When...
I have an equal mix of white leghorns & rhode island reds. 9 of each, & someone recently donated me the rooster from HELL! He keeps law & order in the coop & pen. He is the meanest **** rooster we've ever seen. I think he CREATED the term ATTACK rooster! He has attacked & drawn blood on me on...
I simply thread a "screw eye" into the CORE of the cabbage, then just STEP OUT OF THE WAY!!! Go to any hardware store & get a 3/8ths COURSE THREADED screw eye. It takes very little hand pressure to push it slightly into the core, then holding it in place, I spin the cabbage head onto the rest...
I have twenty layin hens about 1 1/2 years old. I fill a 5 gallon water bottle inverted from a hanger for feeding besides any treats. (boss, scratch, etc) On occasion, they will empty this container by the following day, scattering plenty of feed. I wait until they clean this up prior to...
I take 10 dozen a week to the store for $2.60 ea. (26.00) If I sell them @ the El Rancho, I get $3.00 per. With on site consumables taken into consideration, plus the freebies, I never have left overs.
The poor "flat Landers" that are under informed about country livin'. It's not as bad, I guess, as some of our kids thinking that eggs, milk, steak, bread & a few other things all come from the STORE!!!!!! Too bad the only reality available seems to be called a tv show.

I also have NH Reds among others. I get a JUMBO egg every couple days. Absolutely tips the scale!! I'm not sure yet which hen is throwing them. I wish they'd give me more of them- I could get $5 /dozen for 'em!! I keep any mini's & the jumbo's. The rest go to the...
10 dozen!!! My eggs go to a local store that takes all I can bring them. This is a weekly situation, as the store is 10 miles down the road. I get a very reasonable price UP FRONT when I walk in the door.
You WASTE your eggs? You feed your chickens, water them, built a coop & run for them, & waste the product they work so hard to feed you & your's? AGAIN ----> You don't want to touch a soiled egg? Many stores sell latex gloves!!! They're quite economical, also. I wish I lived...
Hooray for my hens!! Yesterday, I found a local retailer that will buy all the eggs my girls can produce!! This morning I will deliver the 1st 8 dozen @ a more than reasonable price to myself.
Update; I isolated the injured hen for a couple days. Today, I regrouped her w/the flock- So far, things appear ok. Thanks to those above for the input.
I live in the desert, so I guess you'd call that rural? In the middle of almost nowhere, I see no reason not to charge the $3 per dozen which I do. With the cost of feed & the work it takes to do this, if anyone wants cheaper, (lesser grade, pale, soggy eggs) I figure they can get...
