I at least feel better that we decided to let her have her final moments surrounded by her family, next to a warm fireplace and in between some blankets c:>
Hey guys! Just a little update on Grapes. Unfortunately, she passed away last night <:'(
She's always been the chicken to never be caught and run when you tried to pet her. The past week, she's been waiting for me to come home, walking into the house by herself, and letting me pick her right...
Bantams are really neat! They lay the tiniest eggs and are just fun sized little chickens.
And relating to her size, my mother thinks it could possibly be my rooster trying to mate with Grapes and putting too much weight on her? She's layed about 3 or 4 eggs this year, but I'm not sure if they...
I fed her some warm oatmeal today! I made it a little runny to encourage her to drink. She seems to be standing a little more, but can still only move a few feet. Her spirit is still very strong though!
She was limping and hopping around on one foot the other day, but now she can't fully put pressure on it and flops on her side. Sometimes she'll be standing though on both feet. I hope rest does help! She's a sweet little old lady
That link you sent me is such a sweet story! She seems to be kind of the same with the hen there. She definitely doesn't act sick, and is still able to eat, drink, and doesn't seem lethargic. I do agree, it probably might be something to do with old age. I've been helping her in and out of the...
My oldest chicken, Grapes, has had a leg injury the past few days. I noticed a limp a few days ago, and it's getting worse, to the point where she cannot step on that leg. She's a very old bantam golden sebright, about 9 years old. I can't see any injuries from the outside, nor feel anything...
@WiddleChix
Caught another fox this morning, it seemed to be a different one but the same size. I need to catch the mom or dad of these littles. Meanwhile, Hickory is acting a little scared of me (he usually isn't, my chickens aren't afraid of me and don't run when I pick them up), but I think...
@WiddleChix
It's been a while, but Hickory is a lot better! He's able to crow more, his feathers are starting to come in, his wound is healing very well, and he's standing upright. No sign of Butterscotch again, but I was able to capture a fox last night. Unfortunately it wasn't the one I was...
@WiddleChix
Nothing new, I put more ointment on Hickory yesterday and he's still acting the same today. Nothing in the traps yet but I'm not giving up there. I'm gonna check the cameras tomorrow though
@WiddleChix
From her previous time with sitting on a stash in the woods, i was able to find her exact spot because my mom said she saw a fluffed out hen hang around the others, then bolt back somewhere into the woods. She can't tell the difference between my brown hens, so as soon as I got home...
@WiddleChix
Hickory was still on the roost when I got home, so I took him down and he's still lowering his head. His wounds are looking better though, the big gash on his neck is scabbing and everything's clean. And I caught yet ANOTHER (and bigger) skunk this morning. Luckily I didn't get...
@WiddleChix
I put them back in because I had a feeling the hens would leave Hickory as he's just standing around and he'd eventually wander off. He hates being sprayed with the dust protector just like a little kid refusing to take their cough medicine, haha! But I'm very glad he's able to drink...
@WiddleChix
Here's what he looks like now, he's laying in this position because I'm rubbing his chest and he just melts to the ground. There's scabbing, it looks wet because I sprayed more dirt repellent on him, and it looks green/blue because of the hen cream. If even turned my fingers blue...
