Old Chicken's Leg is Injured

LOL @Taylorbrood I wish I could take credit for that one - it's something that BYC puts on there - like yours says "chillin' with my peeps". Don't hold me to it, but I think it changes after a certain amount of posts. Premium members (I think, can change it to something custom if they wish):)

@YoshiWolfox I'm glad she is eating. Warm oatmeal sounds good (you could sneak in some extra vitamins in the oatmeal;)).

9yrs is a long time in chicken years - you have obviously done something right with her.
Thank you for the update - if you have any photos of Grapes, we would love to see her.
thanks, I guess I'm gonna be chillin with my peeps for a very long time as I like that one.

Hey guys! Just a little update on Grapes. Unfortunately, she passed away last night <:'(

She's always been the chicken to never be caught and run when you tried to pet her. The past week, she's been waiting for me to come home, walking into the house by herself, and letting me pick her right up. She became extremely bloated, and at that point, I knew it was something more than a sprain. She seemed to walk a little better and more on her own, but still staggered. Yesterday, I heard something out the window, and saw grapes flip over on her back. I rushed out to her, and she was laying with her head down and eyes closed, breathing heavily from that point on. We kept her in the house that night and kept her warm laying on some towels. She then started having what seemed like intense seizures. We knew she wasn't going to make it through the night, and there was nothing we could do but comfort her. Every time she seized, I rushed over to her and held her. She took a deep breath and died in my arms.

I'm just glad she was surrounded by us when she passed, though...
she was very old and our last bantam, but we knew she wasn't doing well. Do you think she had a stroke or something, and what caused her to start seizing? When I found her that day, she had a gash on the back of her head.

:hugs:hugs I'm so sorry to hear about Grapes.

With her age, it could have been a number of things. Bloating, to me sounds like a reproductive disorder, which can lead to heart and organ failure (which I would think could cause seizures) but there's no way to know without an internal exam.
The gash on the back of the head, I can only guess, but I would suspect it most likely was an injury from seizure.

At 9yrs, she had a good life and a loving home, it's good that she was able to be with you and surrounded by your love.

I at least feel better that we decided to let her have her final moments surrounded by her family, next to a warm fireplace and in between some blankets c:>
