Fowl pox on baby chick! Help asap

Yes, even a very small amount of hydrogen peroxide in the eye can result in bubbles throughout the cornea, ulcers, and permanent blindness. I've seen images of corneal damage caused by residue on opthalmic instruments accidentally cleaned with hydrogen peroxide- truly awful!

    Advice on Prolapsed Vent!

Hi! If there is an egg in there, you'll probably need to get it out- I did see a post (I think!) where someone did push everything back in?-search under prolapse and see if that one comes up. I had one with a bad prolapse a while back, this is what I did, but she'd already had a hole (tissue...

New Lav Orp Babies and Friends **PIC HEAVY**

Quote: Oh, I'm sorry I should have sent you a PM letting you know the pics were up! I hope these can make up for my thoughtlessness! I meant to post these sooner, but everyone's been sick with something "flu-ish"! These are of my first batch of lavenders, they are 12-13 weeks old, 5 cockerels...

New Lav Orp Babies and Friends **PIC HEAVY**

Thanks everyone! I hope to have some better pictures of my 10 week old lav orps tomorrow. Jody (hinkjc) has some beauties on her website, especially Lester, her spectacular roo (now deceased) who, I think, was the "founding father" of her flock.

    Dog attack - 8 week update - RIP :(

Trying a bath would probably be a good idea. Good vets often use hydrotherapy for musculoskeletal injuries. You could wash the poo off first, then let her soak in very warm water (with epsom salts ) deep enough to stand in and support most of her weight. This will encourage her to work her...

Roosters tore up the dominate hen GRAPHIC

Quote: You beat me to it! I was going to suggest super-glue too! Vetbond and Nexaband (now discontinued) are "purified" (for sterility) thinned down, runnier versions of cyanoacrylate glue (Super Glue) All cyanoacrylates that I know of will harden almost immediately, forming biochemically...

    Oyster shells

Walmart, Kmart, CVS, Eckerd's, Walgreen's, grocery stores, and even some dollar stores (at least around here in S.C.) all carry parakeet grit. The Hartz brand is called "Gravel n' Grit" and its fine for chicks, especially if you have itty-bitty bantams and Seramas. You may need to put it in a...

help my chicks are a fews days apart

I put a plastic produce basket upside down over my newbies. (like strawberries come in at the store) They have a chance to get acquainted without injury, and after a couple of hours I take the basket out. I haven't had any trouble with bullying this way. Keep a close eye on your brooder though...

HELP - Young silkie ? prolapse

I have a buff orpington that had a pretty severe prolapse, one of the worst I've ever seen. I decided to try to fix it because she didn't have a history of soft shelled eggs or other issues. She had completely inverted the oviduct around the egg and pushed everything out-kind of like a balled up...

    Did I commit a serious foul-pas?

Fowl pas- A mis-step or error committed by an unwitting chicken owner. Usually followed by hand wringing, anxiety, and a quick post to BYC!

    broody chickens

My Buff Orpingtons have been taking turns being partly broody with a chance of "setting-ness" for over a month now. No one has completely taken the plunge though. I have one in a kennel cab now on eggs, she's done this several times overnight but she loses interest by morning.

    Coryza, Abscess, or Something Else?

A few days ago my father-in-law brought over a pair of bantams (not sure of age or breed, maybe OEG or Japanese) that were abandoned on his rental property, locked in a barn with no food or water. He discovered them shortly after the tenant vacated, so they were in good shape, healthy looking...

    Roos vs. Neighbors-Need Advice

Quote: Hi, I'm new here. I usually just lurk, but I felt strongly about this and wanted to let you know... Unless you see, with your own eyes, actual abuse of children, please do not call Child Protective Services. False reporting is a crime, and even though you can report "anonymously" they...
