Last Monday 5/16 we welcomed our 1st chick, followed by our 2nd chick on Wed. 5/18.
As a newbie chicken mom, I was a nervous/anxious momma. After asking lots of questions, reading lots of books and researching lots of posts/websites....I finally relaxed.
Yesterday momma and chicks left the...
I have a free ranging broody hen who gave birth to two chicks this week. One is a full yellow chick 3 days old, the yellow with black spots is 1 day old. We have several stray cats and a stray dog that enter our property, is it still suggested to let momma take the babies out of the coop/run at...
Thanks they are in a big coop, we lowered the nest to the ground floor of the 3 level coop for the chicks safety. Mom was free ranged, we don't plan to free range the chicks until they are big enough to defend themselves.
Being a newbie, I'm not sure my thinking is correct, however I was...
Hi,
I have a broody hen who had 2 chicks this week. Every time we put our hand in the coop, not near babies she bites. She will not allow us to fill the water bowl or fed dish.
We want to socialize the chicks with us, however mom refuses to allow it.
I understand mom is being protective...
1st time hatching eggs with a broody hen. There are 2 eggs one due tomorrow and 1 Wed.
I was unaware that after day 18 they should not be candled and candled both today. Momma is still sitting on them and they were both moving. One is a small white egg and the other is a large white egg.
I did...
My momma hen has 2 fertilized eggs one is 6 days old and the other is about 4-5 days old.
We live in Florida, tempts are 90's in the day and 70's at night.
Do I need to make a brooder with heat lamp when the chicks arrive or will the FL. heat be enough?
Any advice for a newbie, preparing for...
I recently adopted 2 free ranging hens and a rooster, trying to determine the breeds.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Rooster
One is red/brown, other is black/white with dots
We are returning the dog tomorrow.
Thanks for all your advice, but I just could not keep the dog.
Everytime I turned around he was being aggressive at the male member in our home. He bite him 2x.
I explained to my daughter the situation and she agreed.
We are going to get a better natch dog...

If that dog will bite your friend..he WILL bite your kid someday too...

Update:
Early this evening my daughter was eating at the dinningroom table and my husband was watching tv by his computer at the other end of the dinning area. The kitchen is attached to the dinning area.
The dog sat on my hubby's lap with no issues. He petted him and they watched tv together...
Thanks everyone.
As I said the dog has been with us 6 days and seems to growl/bite the male friend that lives with us.
He bite on the toes/ankle, as the guy walked passed him.
I appreciate all the advice.
1st incident the man was walking in the front door.
Today he came into the livingroom to talk to me, the dog was asleep on the floor next to the couch.
I was laying on the couch watching tv, and the dog started growling and bite the person.
It happened in a split second.
Thanks for the replies.
The older dog is not an issue, he is an outside dog and is separated at all times from the Dashund.
I'm worried about him nipping/biting our male friend that lives with us.
He appears loving to me, my daughter and my husband, but nips and bites the other male in the...
Advice needed: We adopted a Daschund (possibly mix breed) 7 days ago. The dog does not get along with our other dog (he growls viciously at him). My Special Needs daughter loves the dog deeply, her health and behavior/life have changed For THE BETTER the past 7 days. She is more social, goes...

My girls love doing tricks, lay down, beg, belly rub and spinning in circles when they want to eat.

Penelope is actually an outdoor PBP.
I read several books and websites and they all suggest clipping the nursing teeth and birth. The piglets are born with razor sharp teeth and can hurt each other and mamma when nursing. From what I've heard/read, it is not painful...
