I've got her in the bath right now. Is there a certain way I should massage her to help? Where do I feel for the egg? I don't want to press to hard and break the egg. Should I expect egg to come out in the bath?
My 3 year old RIR has been moving her tail up and down since yesterday. It looks like she is trying to pushing an egg out. She is lethargic, lets me touch her which isn't normal. I gave her some oatmeal with electrolytes and some polyvisol to boost her energy but I'm not sure what else to do...
I'm so sorry for your loss. I don't know anything about building a coop but I know that keeping busy is the best way to get through grieving. My dad passed away recently and it was a blessing that I was so busy at work. Please post pics of your beautiful coop when it is done!
Take care,
Tia
My hen is having the same problem and I read that it could be a calcium deficiency and you are supposed to give her a tums crushed up. I put the tums on some oatmeal and she gobbled it up.
I'll keep my fingers crossed for both of us!
thanks. I wanted to add that she has only pooped (dark brown and very watery) once since I've had her inside today (about 5 hours). This seems odd to me.
I have her in a warm bath right now and I think I feel and egg but I'm not sure if I'm right. I massaged the area a bit and she started panting. Do they pant when they are laying an egg. I have determined that she has not been laying her eggs. She seems to like the bath. She is closing her...
Yes, she's doing a penguin walk...that's a better way to describe it. She is laying everyday but the egg is white which is odd when it has always been brown. I will check tomorrow to see if I can feel an egg.
My 9 month old RIR is not doing well:( She usually lays brown eggs but she is now laying white eggs. She stands straight up so that her rear end practically drags on the ground. She is still eating and drinking regularly and seems healthy otherwise.
There has been no changes to the coop...
My chicken's comb is all white on the top and so I think it is frostbitten. It got to be around minus 8 celcius today but the chickens still wanted to go so I let them out of the coop. Can i keep the chickens inside the coop for the whole winter?
thanks,
Tia
I've been torn for the last few days trying to face the fact that Abby was not going to get better. Her respiratory illness got worse. I brought her to my cat's vet today and he put her down for free for me. I wish I had had the courage to break her neck because she screamed when he put the...
I squeezed a bit and an oily clear/yellowish liquid came out. When I squeezed some more I could tell she didn't like it and nothing more came out. It is very hard but the wick doensn't look waxy. Should I continue to try to drain it?
I didn't have any natural apple cider vinegar so I used the hydrogen peroxide on her swollen oil gland but I didn't see any bubbling...I guess I will continue to use the compress and hopefully it will get better.
Well your results are encouraging for me. I've had a pullet rir who hasn't been able to walk for about 5 weeks but she also has a cold. Hopefully when her cold is gone she will be able to absorb the vitamins and walk again.
I read the symptoms of Marek's and I didn't think it sounds like what Abby has. She has the use of her legs...she stretches them out on her own and grips my fingers with her toes but just doesn't have any balance. Does anyone else think it is Marek's disease?
