Where did you get your EE chicks? They are gorgeous. I am curious as to what color eggs you are getting from them. I had a white EE, Bunny, who sadly was killed by a coyote. She was my favorite hen.
This is a GREAT idea to get them all soaking at once. Tis the season for wading pools. I will grab one in my next trip to Walmart. I see a spa day in my girls future;)
Thank you for your suggestion. I will try the ivermectin with the vaseline on their legs. My two Brahmas have shown signs for months. I treated them last fall with vaseline but failed to spray the coop. I hoped they would improve but clearly they didn't. I was hesitant to use any "non-natural"...
Cyprus, thanknyou for the link. I've read through it and while helpful, it still doesn't answer my questions directly. I am hoping someone who has had success in treating SLM will chime in with answers. As many have remarked, this is a frustrating one to deal with. Thanks!
After reading the multitude of posts here and elsewhere re: scaly leg mite treatment, I have a few questions for y'all. First, a little history: flock of 9 (1-2 years old), four showing signs, the two Brahmas have it bad. For the past two weeks, I've been treating entire flock: 1) Cleaned entire...
You might want to consider wooden slats as a floor. Check out photos from teila that were posted under ueaterday's thread "raised coop with run underneath or walk-in? Which is best?"
Dawnbigfoot, did you older hen ever jump over the partition and/or in to the Rubbermaid tub? I like your ideas of brooding in the coop/run but wondered if the partition needed a cover.
So my white EE Bunny was the first of our small flock of six to lay. She gave us two mint green eggs in early June then nothing. Well, after over 2 1/2 months of waiting she finally laid her third egg. Hopefully, Bunny's freeloading days are over! Just thought I would share my story for the...
Interesting idea. Maybe someone with more experience will weigh in. Given the idea is to smother the mites it just might work. Just stay away from any red tones. You might end up with some cool (get it? greens, blues, purples) art!
I don't know what predators you have in your area bit where I live a few folks have lost hen's in the middle of the day to a bobcat. I am sorry for your loss.
Please keep us posted. I am battling a minor case with my Brahmas who also have the feathered feet. I haven't had the courage to try the gasoline dip yet.
