Thanks to all that replied to my problem. Actually quite excited to see how the rooster saga plays out. I never thought I would have one. Thank goodness we moved to our 40 acre ranchette last year.
I have been pressure canning for about fifty years. I have always uses the ball blue book as my pressure and time guide. My tomato products always separate, juice, stewed tomatoes, salsa...etc. it doesn't harm the finished product. I just shake it up befor I open the jar. I know that is a simple...
hello everybody. I have had chickens for 3 years now. It would seem that there would come a point where I could say that I know what I am doing. My best old gal just got over a case of salpingitis that I used backyard chickens site on a daily basis... In April, I bought 9 pullet chicks at my...
Hello Arizona chickeners. I am chickening in St. Johns Arizona. I have a flock of 11 ladies and I just found out today....one gent that was supposed to be a pullet. We have 40 acres of the most beautiful high desert, but the beauty comes at a price. Hawks, coyotes and foxes keep trying to end my...
We got 9 pullets from our local feed store in April. This red in question has matured much faster than the others and I swear I heard a cockadoodledoo this morning.
I knew it was a bad picture but it runs off when I try to get closer. Wii work on getting a better pic. What is the protocol with neighborhood chicks? Should I try and capture her or let her do her thing?
Another tiny egg today. I am loving this. I give my gals shelter and food and they give me eggs that as of last Saturday were 5 dollars a dozen at the store. I also love her egg song. This is great.
Thanks to all for sharing my eggcitement. I was just reading a chicken treat thread and someone posted that they had given their chickens leftover scrambled eggs as a treat. That's what I want......to be able to have leftover eggs. Imagine having so many eggs you can throw out the eggcess.
My girl had her first egg today. I just found out they were girls and I only had to wait a week or so and this little miracle happens. The egg itself is a light tan color and very petit. Do eggs get bigger after a while? I am so excited.......much more so than all my friends that I woke up this...
This is exactly how I got my two girls. I call them my accidental chickens. I went out to hang up clothes and they had taken up residence in my husbands workshop. He made a coop and enclosure for them the very next weekend. Now they are safe and better fed than my child. They seem to enjoy their...
My chickens ate a head of loose leaf lettuce and are working on a head of Napa cabbage. They love greens. Can they get too much? I am so new to this that I am afraid I will harm them with my enrichment efforts.
First, I love this site. If I can think of a question, it is on here with answers. Also, when Michael said that my accidental chickens were pretty, I felt as if he were talking about one of my kids......a prideful welling up inside. Now to the crux of this post......where are these chickens...
Hello again,
These are my accidental chickens, Tyson and Perdu. Can anyone tell me about breed and sex? I suspect that the white one is a rooster but am just guessing. The learning center is very helpful....almost too much info, but I am so willing to learn. Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Yep, I checked with neighbors and nothing. I will post pics of the ladies and maybe you can tell me what I have. They are so fun to watch. They have their own personalities, one is timid and the other is bold. They get so excited over bugs they scratch up. Off to the learning...
Hello all,
I am new to this forum and a new urban chicken rancher. For years my hubby and I have discussed getting laying chickens and nothing was ever done to go from the talking stage to the doing stage. Well, 3 weeks ago, I went into the back yard and there was a chicken there. It fluttered...
