Thank you for letting me know. It is true it does not sound like traditional Marek's and may not be.
Unfortunately I do not want to risk my flock because I am not sure if they are all vaccinated. At this point it is too late to do so for them.
I am going to pass. Thank you very much for the...
Yes at some point I do. These are my favorite. I will need some time to figure out this electric fencing pasture raising situation though. Right now they are in a field near a neighbor's house so I cannot have roosters. I do not know how much of a rush you are in.
What kind of electric fencing did you get? I am just starting to look into a set up here. What is needed? Could you tell ne how much you spent? Is there a lot of maintenance needed?
Does anyone know anywhere to buy Modesto Milling organic corn soy free layer pellets at a reasonable price? Anywhere from SF to the coast side would help.
I have been driving down to Santa Cruz but would value somewhere closer.
She lays white eggs, so I am going to go with the Andalusian. Thanks guys!
First white egg today, and it was the most brilliant orange yolk I have seen.
Do the Andulusians have combs that flop over when they resume laying? I really like this chicken. She is very mellow and isn't too aggressive to the bottom of the flock. I want to get more if I can figure out what breed she is. On top of that she is beautiful.
I took the time to read that article. You have misinterpreted the results. It is about revaccination at day 7, not vaccination at day 7. Here is the actual quote you mention but reword a bit heh:
"(iii) the immune system of chicks 7 days of age or older is more competent than that of 18-day-old...
I am sure there are outliers. My information is from the avian epidemiology department of UC Davis. It is true for the vast majority of cases.
Just to clarify, the vaccine needs to be administered either in the developing egg or at day one. Any later is ineffective. The age range is 8-20 weeks...
My parents fed my chickens avocado pits one day without knowing better.
A few chickens were extremely lethargic and looked very sick the next day. I thought they were going to die.
I would follow the advice of not feeding chickens avocados.
As for green potatoes, even humans are not...
Feed store chicks are most likely vaccinnated. Mareks has a much lower chance to affect adult birds, meaning birds after 20 weeks.
Chicks under a broody may be confusing. It may have something to do with having grown up in the presence of Mareks at a very young age as it sounds like you have...
