When I purchased the eggs I was told there was Marans, BLRW's, EE's and Silver Laced Chochin/ Maran mix ( cochin hen and maran rooster). These were all yellow/cream when hatched. The RLBW's are easy to distinguish. The EE's all have green legs so that leaves Marans or cochin mix.
SO! yesterday was day 26 and still nothing. I went out to check one last time before I clear out the nest and send my 2 ladies packing but the rain was coming down so badly I decided to wait til after work today. I was kinda putting it off because my 3 yr old has been excited to see some baby...
This is a group of mixed chicks I have that some may possibly been hatched from a BSL. From the looks of the the one posted earlier is it safe to say this is a pullet BSL mix? The only reason im unsure its a pullet is because how RED the little spot on the comb is. The picture doesn't show it...
6.5 week old mixed breed. Im thinking pullet because of the yellow on the comb but I fear its a cockeral because the wattles are pretty red.
The comb and wattles are just slightly larger than another of the same mix... unlike the obvious roo in the 4th pic.
Last, but not least, is my 3 1/2 year olds favorite. This one started out black and grey has now became almost all black but has feathers with brown streaks on its chest. Really hope this one is a hen.

These next 2 chicks have an amazing textured look to their feathers. Just like #2 and 3, I am very excited to see what they will look like full grown.

The person I got all my chicks from sent me pictures of the hens and the rooster she owns.
This hen may be...
These 2 will most likely be getting rehomed. #4s comb isnt getting any redder in the last few weeks so still unknown on that one, 99.9% sure 5 is a roo. These 2 feathers are different then the rest. They feel like they look...

Wanted to post some updated pics of the chicks just to show the changes they have went through in the last month. Didnt know if I should start a new thread or just piggyback on this one...obviously I decided to piggyback.
Not really concerned about the breeds in which they came from any longer...
Have a few chicks I am unsure of. If these are roosters I will be 6/8 roos. They have some color on their wattles but very small combs. Does pink wattles at 4 weeks mean cockerel for sure?
#1 Unknow mix breed. The camera makes the comb and wattles look a darker red than they are. They are...
We only lost one to a predator. My son didn't check to make sure all the chickens were in the coop when he shut it up one night and he wasn't there in the morning. I assume it was one of the owls that nests near by because there were only a few feathers only the ground and no blood. The other 2...
That makes me sad My 2 Barred Rocks look like their white is coming in thicker than their black. The combs are pretty pronounced compared to my other breeds too.
That's what I assumed but figured I would throw it out there just in case. The rest of the chicks have distinct characteristics of several of the breeds that the group came from. Im hoping that I have guessed correctly on them because it would be a pretty good mix to have running around the...
Hello all,
Recently got back into chickens. Part of my childhood I was able to experience the joys of living on a farm. The wife and I decided to get chickens for egg and meat production as well as a little entertainment and companionship.
We live in Minnesota. We have a variety of hens...
