That is so cool! I have heard that so long as budgies have friends, they are pretty placid towards other birds :) I am hoping to rescue some budgies soon (we have so many people give them away on craigslist around here) and try and introduce them into my cage once I get a larger one. Again, I...
Oh yeah I know haha :) I do a ton of research before trying anything, and always have backup cages. Our local petstore breeds them (sustainably, don't worry, best pet store I have found) and the society finches and zebras grow up together, so they are quite used to each other, anyways.
That's so amazing! Once I have my own place and room for an aviary, I am going to get a bunch of zebra finches to be friends with my society finches :D
They do have a lot of fun! They get along quite well :) never had any aggression issues. I do make sure they both have their own little hiding spaces, as in the finches have their nest, and my quail has a little cove behind a wall of bark, but just so long as everyone is fed, and even if they...
I have been keeping my coturnix quail with two society finches for about a year now, and I wanted to know if anyone else has done that :) i do not have a picture of their current setup, but it is a 3 1/2 foot tall rat cage with 2 sq. feet of ground space. this is a bit of their old cage:

Yeah, mine is flighty, but still is super cute! I need some turkeys! Ahhhhh! Or a guard goose like Justin Rhodes has :) I am going to try and hatch some society finches with my breeding pair, and maybe at some point can sell their eggs to local bird people.
((P.S. Sam, I still love ducks...
Hehe... I do need to get back to posting here! Especially if the finch and quail experiment works out, some people may want to see that. Anyways, I am just gonna mess this whole thing up and say quail are the best since they are the most efficient, eat the least, smell the least, and they have...
Just picked up two quail hens for my little quail male. He is in love with them, the girls don't quite know yet. I will let you know when they start laying.
If it does not have auto turn, do it at least 3x daily. That is when I have had best results. I have one quail left out of my four. Make sure the brooder box you have them in has high enough sides so it will not jump out. I also recommend using a heat pad instead of a brooder, as you can keep...
Our journey of fowl all started when a friend who owns chickens told us that there were chicks and ducklings at Tractor Supply. Of course we had to look, it was spring and there were DUCKLINGS! I am a sucker for animals, especially cute ones, and I don't know why my mom let me go look at...
This is Ferris, my hopefully female quail chick. She is an only chick, as no other eggs hatched out of the ten I set. She loves to hide in my skirt whenever I sit down, and when am not around she sleeps under her surrogate sock mum. I hope she will become a sweet quail whom I can free range...
