Anyone else kept quail and finches together?

That's so amazing! Once I have my own place and room for an aviary, I am going to get a bunch of zebra finches to be friends with my society finches :D

Beware zebra finches are not as friendly as societies - they can live together, but it's recommended to have 2-3 times as many societies as zebras so the zebras will have trouble chasing them all.

Oh yeah I know haha :) I do a ton of research before trying anything, and always have backup cages. Our local petstore breeds them (sustainably, don't worry, best pet store I have found) and the society finches and zebras grow up together, so they are quite used to each other, anyways.

I have a flight cage in the garden with Japanese Quail, Gouldian Finches and budgies all living together great.

I was worried the budgies would bite the finches... as it said on the net that you can't mix finches with budgies. But they just get alone great.. feeding, perching and flying about together.

The quails are super placid and never bother the other birds. Only they liked to climb in the seed tray and have a dust bath in it.. till all the seed was on the floor.... so I had to make a raised shelf for the bird seed!!

That is so cool! I have heard that so long as budgies have friends, they are pretty placid towards other birds :) I am hoping to rescue some budgies soon (we have so many people give them away on craigslist around here) and try and introduce them into my cage once I get a larger one. Again, I always have a spare cage handy, one per species in case it goes south :)

My budgies are all males (18 in total).

I think the females are more aggressive, and they all get more aggressive when they are nesting. Because, I only have males, and no nest boxes, they just spend all their time playing and chirping.

Okay, that makes a lot of sense
